How about rice? Maybe can eat soup with rice.

Can cook corn soup with carrot and pork ribs.

Maybe this age can add a little bit of salt/soya sauce.................

Find out why he rejects porridge & others. Is it because of the texture(too soft) or the taste? Taste his food and if you don't like it, same for kids - they're not stupid.

I have a 21 month son, we expose him to variety of food since young (even chilli, ha!) From there we know what type of texture and food he likes/dislikes.

Suggest you slowly introduce different types of food to him, alternate with different ones every other day (not the same porridge/noodles everyday, even adults grow sick out of them)

Actually if you do cook for the family, he can take rice and adult food like fried fish and vege (just cut to smaller pieces before serving for easy chewing and prevent choking). My son and nephews like to eat food that the adults eat, they think it's tastier than those served on their bowls - kids nowadays are very smart.

You can improvise a bit from the current food you cook for him:

Porridge - cook brown rice with pork rib (make sure the tiny bones are washed off before cooking, soak the raw meat in boiling water for 2 minutes, drained the water away and cook with rice and other ingredients)/ silver fish, one whole garlic,a few ginger slices.
After the rice's cooked, add shredded carrot/pumpkin/spinach and fish to cook for a few minutes before serving.

mee suah/macaroni - cook soup base with ikan bilis and pork ribs. Add ingredients which gives natural sweetness - pumpkin, carrot, diced-onion, potatoes etc. I added the above for my son's macaroni, he likes it but only serve that once in a while.

Make eating time a FUN time, you eat his food and 'show' him in exaggerated expression that the food's tasty. I 'share' my son's chinese medicine when encouraging him to drink it from the straw - the 'your turn - my turn' game works on him.

Hi,

I'm new mummy and my friends are mostly not married so no one to turn to for advice.

My baby is 7 months now and is eating 2 meals of solids with other meals milk. His solids are rice cereal mixed with milk and mixed with pureed veges.

So far the veges I know of that are suitable are:
Brocolli
Carrots
Sweet Potato
Pumpkin

Another vege I can feed?

How about meats? I'm thinking of feeding my baby salmon. Is that ok? Do I puree the fish before feeding?

When can baby eat 3 meals?

Some of my colleagues say that eating 2 meals now is too much. But I went to KKH website and their recommended menu for 7-9mth baby is already 3 meals...

I'm totally confused. Hope someone can advise me.

Thanks!

You can try sweet peas too (the frozen kind). Just steam (straight out from packet) and then puree. Apples can also be used as part of the main meal at this point of time. When your kid is slightly older, you can move it to the 'dessert' part of the meal. Try different types of sweet potatoes as well (yellow japanese, orange malaysian)

I only started my girl with Carrots at a later stage. Be careful with feeding carrots to babies at the early stages. The carrot needs to be cooked in water, and the water thrown away before being pureed. This is because carrots contain nitrates (common in vegetables) which are not good for younger babies.

Try this website for what you can prepare - http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/

This website has a guide on how/ when you can start your babies on specific types of food (including the fish that you were looking for). Be mindful that the feeding timeline this website uses is for babies who start eating at 4 - 6 months. Since you started at 7 months, just scale everything back (:

I'm not sure if salmon would be a good choice to start babies with. The foreigners seem to use haddock and cod more, whilst I gave my girl 'wu yu' (ngoh he) only at the beginning.

I started my girl out with 2 meals as well. As long as your baby is receptive towards the foods, you'll know you are doing fine (:

Thanks Esther. I've been to the website and it suggested introducing fish at 10 months... I also visited babycenter.com.sg and it says it's ok to feed fish after 6 months...

I feel like starting fish... Personally I hate fish so I was thinking if I started my baby early on it, he'd take on to it well. And the fish I'm thinking of is salmon because it is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and good cholesterol which is important in brain and nervous system development.

But I also heard from colleagues not to start on salmon too early as baby's tummy can't breakdown the fats.

Different websites and different people say different things and have different opinions. Just don't want baby to get allergic reaction or get affected by mercury found in fish.

Also heard of Ngho Heer to start of with rather than salmon... Maybe will try that...

I think if you give him fish regularly he won't grow to hate it, but no guarantees when he's older though (think their habits will change along the way).

Try starting your baby on chicken first, then fish about a month later. I think the gradual procession from vegetables/ roots/ fruits to meats and gradually hardier foods will be a good gauge of what to feed the baby.

The ngoh heer was actually recommended by the fishmonger though. I kinda told him that I needed to buy fish for baby, and he pointed me in that direction. It was after I bought the fish that my mom told me that ngoh heer is the 'correct' fish to buy. I'm not sure about the digestion of salmon fats, but it does make sense to me, coz salmon is definitely a lot more oily compared to ngoh heer. You can get your fishmonger to chop the ngoh heer into smaller pieces, all you need to do is to steam/ microwave it (with some water in it) and it's ready for feeding. Get them to remove the bones and skin for you if you don't want the hassle of doing it yourself.
