Where to get Christmas ham?

Postby peapot » Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:27 pm

Hi! Anyone know where to buy Christmas ham? One that taste good and not cost an arm and leg. Last year we bought one at $92. But it was for friends so thought the price was ok. This year my husband wants to invite the neighbours over for early Christmas dinner. I was tasked to get the ham. I find $92 abit expensive to serve neighbours. Sorry, do I sound very "niao"??

I thot for neighbours no need to get expensive ham. There will also be other foods as well. We already spend $1800 on a Christmas tree. So I really want to cut cost.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Thks mother777, NTUC ham are very "factory"made. My husband don't like it. You know of anyone who can do homemade ham that I can buy from? Much like the CNY cookies type. Perhaps it will taste good and cost much lesser than "the butcher".

What about raw ham? Can I buy the leg and make the ham myself?? Wa!!! This one sounds difficult but an idea to explore.

Yes you can. I think Cold Storage sells raw ham. If not, go to the specialty butchers. I don't think it's that difficult to diy. Score it, stuff cloves, glaze it... That's what my friend used to do.
