US has banned some of these products with elevated lead levels.

Though our ava has said it's safe for now, I'll rather go cold turkey  than risk my health.

But I love eating them   esp the chan pui mui

Is it the kind that is shown in the pic you posted? Cos the kind I eat comes in a different packaging (from Oz or US, can't remember now) and is sold at supermarkets. The one you showed has individual wrappings but the one I used to eat comes in a resealable green bag.

hey schellen,
those sold here are not under the same brands as that listed in the us website. But they could be from the same source. So, better stay away for now as ava is still continuing their checks.

jennifer,
difficult for me to stay away from china pdts..having grown up with these titbits. Ever tried the del-monte dried prunes?? those are so sweet and can't ever replace the made in china type...hmmm what will those preggie women eat then?

I recently stumble across made in china dried/salty raisins. They're fab too!..unlike the sweet type from sunmaid.

I still can't remember the brand but it's an "angmoh" brand, I think. My family and I have steered away from chen pi mei, white rabbit candy and various other china made foodstuff for a number of years already. I'll probably drop by NTUC to check the brand tomorrow night.

I buy a few round of EGO seedless plum recently. They are so tasty that I eat them continuously. The proctuct packet indicate from Malaysis. Not sure if it is safe...

Just in case, what could be the side effect of having been eating the affected product?

Imported Dried Plums and Prunes Available for Sale in Singapore Do Not Contain Elevated Level of Lead

09 Oct 09: Following the alert issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services on elevated levels of lead found in certain imported dried plums/prunes and products containing imported dried plums, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore has stepped up checks on imported dried plums/prunes from countries such as China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States of America for testing of lead.

So far, the results of the test showed that the samples are satisfactory and do not contain elevated level of lead.
The above quote is taken from AVA website.

Based on AVA's report, I searched for side effects on lead poisoning.

Side Effects:
High doses of lead can damage the nervous system, kidneys, and blood system and can even be lethal. Continuous low-level exposure causes lead to accumulate in the body and cause damage. It is particularly dangerous for babies, before and after birth, and for small children because their bodies and brains are growing rapidly.

I went to NTUC to check last night and confirmed that the dried cranberries I used to snack on are from Del Monte.
