Canned abalone/clams/topshell brine

What do you guys do with the brine? I always throw them away but the mil says sayang, should use as stock. :?

We use it as stock, but not sure is good or not since some of them has been in the shelf for quite sometime already.

ya. thats why I throw them away, its preservatives/chemicals right?

even those tuna in brine, I'd throw the brine away too. Just wondering if we should. anyone else knows?

Hi mathsparks,

I stopped buying tuna in brine long ago because of the salt content. Now buy the one in water.

I used to throw the brine away, and even rinse the salt off the tuna.

Not sure if this topic has been discussed in previous years, if not, can we start one -

Pls share what brands you like n why? There are so many brands till I am not sure which one is value for money.

I saw from the tv, there are canned abalones from Taiwan, China, besides the usual Mexico, Australia and NZ.

my Canto MIL swears by CALMEX brand. http://www.calmex.com.tw/

I buy any from the petrol kiosk...Skylight/New Moon...

I've some frozen from Australia - not bad.
