Maris Stella High

There's nothing quite like being able to discuss issues and network with other parents with children in the same school as yours. Individual Schools' Official Parent Support Groups are welcome to come in and help out the incoming groups of parents.

Hi, does anyone know if there's a after school care at MSHS? I googled the learning chapter and saw they've permanently closed.

Thanks.

Yes there is. They changed to a new vendor this year, it’s called Ace@work Student care.

child is entering MSHS (primary) next year through phase 2C and got curious about the school's recent developments so I read the entire thread. yes all 362 pages. i have come to some conclusions:

1. seems like posts praising the school or criticizing the school comes around during the P1 registration period. it makes me wonder what are the motivating factors for the uncanny timing

2. there are posts about bullying and many times it seems these were borne out of frustration because parent felt that school did not do enough to prevent or remedy the situation. i came from a hokkien huay kuan school (in the east) and i was also bullied (called names and even one time had a metal water bottle thrown at me that resulted in a broken nose which I still suffer from till today). i really think bullying is in every school. parents have to teach their kids to protect themselves.

3. i am heartened to find that parents have been posting how stressed they have been about the children's academics but it seems very heavily skewed towards mandarin. this tells me that the school is doing alot in that area but i do wonder how is the math and science departments doing

4. there were a few rare posts that talked about PSLE results across the years. so for the sake of everyone i decided to compile the data and put it into perspective for you:-

Primary 1 intake: ~270
Secondary 1 intake: ~330
Primary 6 student who qualify for affiliation: ~50% of Primary school intake (~128 students)
Primary 6 student who chosse to go Secondary school section: ~30% of Secondary 1 intake (~77 students)
GEP per cohort: 10-15 students
Primary 6 student who do not qualify for affiliation: ~127 students

i infer that ~20% who qualify but did not choose to go Secondary school section majority are kids who scored above 240 range (i think it's about AL8-9) as this score will have more choices (academically speaking)

i wouldn't think there is a better choice out there for kids scoring 220-230+ (not saying they did very badly and had no choice but being able to enter MSHS at 220-230+ is really a steal as they really proven to value add alot)

5. i think if P6 parents will be so kind as to disclose their DSA results on this thread, it will be really useful as i think this is the only data point lacking in this thread

6. i do not know if MSHS (Primary) is a "good" school academically given i have no idea how other primary schools are doing statistically

wonder what's up. can any parents with child enrolled in prior year shed more light?

many thanks in advance
