Singapore Sports School

Having survived PSLE. we still need to network with other parents with kids in the same Secondary school. While giving our teenagers their own space, we can update each other about the school.

For a start, he would need to be swimming competitively. For swimmers, most of them are swimming competitively in swimming clubs.

You may want to take a look at the application form for some insights as to what info is required. For Swimming, you need to fill up his Personal Best timing for the relevant stroke(s):

Thanks .. my son it’s in swimming club(one of their vendor) but have not yet to join any competitions.
I have gone through the application list and sadly there’s is nothing I could fill up as he did not join any competition . Will they shortlist base on academic results too? Any suggestion to have higher chance to get in?

I think you should give the person-in-charge a call. His contact details can be found using the link below

All the best.

They aren’t too concern about results because SSP offers IB, O, N(A), Diploma (thru train to RP) etc. Basically, as long as you are not failing badly in primary school, they should have a suitable course for you.

Unfortunately, I think competition experience is a must for consideration. It’s a SPORTS school after all. Without comp results, it’s hard for you to even put down his PB. The good news, however, is that he’s P5 and there’s still time. Upcoming comp this year include Singapore National Swimming Championships and Pesta Sukan.

Can elaborate why please?

Academic coaching/teachers not up to par?

Or sports coaching not up to par? The kids are still going for some regional competitions or have they been cancelled due to Covid?

Or the admin/boarding/student morale is a mess?

Personally, I am an alumni of Singapore sports school. I was from Swimming academy.
In Reply to @Rainnehong, yes your child need to be swimming competitively in competition such as Singapore National Age Group and School Nationals which he represents the school for swimming competition. Usually at these competitions, there are SSP people scouting for young swimmers. Normally, your child have to start swimming competitively around primary 3 or 4. then when he or she is P5 or P6, the chances of getting notice is higher. Results wise, competition results have to be either top 8 (means he/she gets to swim in the finals) or better if he/she can come in top 3.
I graduated as class of 2012. So when I enrolled in SSP then and now, the criteria has change a lot. Back then the criteria was not very stringent compared to now as the number of swimmers intake per batch has dropped significantly. Used to be 12-14 swimmers to now about 6-8 swimmers or maybe less.
