Paya Lebar Methodist Girl's School (Secondary)

Having survived PSLE. we still need to network with other parents with kids in the same Secondary school. While giving our teenagers their own space, we can update each other about the school.

Paya Lebar Methodist Girl's School (Secondary)

Postby DadOfGirl » Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:05 am

Paya Leber MGS school has not admitted non affliated -Express student since last two years... Is there any chances , this year they raise the limit for Affliated students , hence non -affliated students stand some chance...

Please help..... Thinking of taking chance & put as first choice.. BTW My DD scored 240 with A* in languages... looks like we have to put her in school which offer Social sciences & huminity subjects from sec 3...Avoid schools with focus on maths & science

Call up the school. Meet up with the principal. They may offer a place for your girl directly :p

Call in & make appt to find Ms. Pamela Yoong. She's the new P :)

Prepare your reasons:
- Girl's school
- Good environment
- New facilities
- Strong in Humanities subjects (FYI, they have not been offering Pure History at upper Sec for very long due to low demand)
- etc

BTW, which CCA was your girl in? If it's any music/dance related or sports, higher chances of getting in cos those are the school's niche areas.

Wow ... that's spot-on recommendation. Thank you mrswongtuition.

Her CCA was 'Dance' .. At SGYF competition they did very well couple of years back. She has 240 , that's problem, but A* in both language.

Will go to school today & put up Appeal form. Thank you again

The school's niche area is dance. Contact Ms Adeline Loh (HOD of Aesthetics) for audition to increase chances. Ms Loh is also an English Lit teacher. Can appeal to her about your girl's strength in languages to help you.

When you go to the office and Mrs. Lim (very old lady) or Mrs. Puspa (very nice Indian lady) speaks to you, make sure you leave a very very good impression.

BTW, if this appeal is not successful, continue to meet up with the heads in the school. BE PERSISTENT to show your sincerity! If you are really keen, continue to contact them even when terms starts as they have students who will migrate and there'll be a vacancy.

With 240, your girl will be in the top class if she manages to get into PL.

You should speak to them first. Ask them the possibility of being accepted if you put 1st choice. They usually give priority to cases that put them as 1st choice.

Just go and talk to them. Don't worry too much. I've seen so many students who manage to appeal in successfully. And those students scored way lower than your girl.

Ultimately , we decided not to waste first choice on PLMGS... We have still put it as 4th Choice ( COP of first above score , next 2 COP below score) .. fill out the Appeal form & hightlighted based on your pointers... Now seeking apptmnnt with P...

Both Cedar & PLMGS are already accepting forms. School website has PDF for download. You are required to attach copy 'Printout' of S1 posting choices. Rest of schools like Cresecent will only accept form after 22nd.
