Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

Having survived PSLE. we still need to network with other parents with kids in the same Secondary school. While giving our teenagers their own space, we can update each other about the school.

First the bad:
To tell the truth, this school is tough to get used to. I was bullied in sec one and two as I did not "play the same computer games as they did". Luckily I am in IP, express classes got even more bullies. There are also very few Singaporeans compared to the number of foreigners here (IDK if this happens to just my class.) I also saw some cases of express students not getting leadership positions in their CCAs. And the maintenance of the facilities kinda sucks. TBH I kinda regretted coming to this school

Then the good:
Well, the teachers give kinda good notes to reinforce what is being taught in the lessons. The friends are nice, if you manage to clique with them (if you don't within the first few weeks, then kena ignore the whole year, damn boring). Umm... Unfortunately, i think thats all...

To sum up, I believe that your child will have a good time here, but its damn tough if you don't join from year 1. If you're in IP, then lucky... express damn sad.
Heh, you must be from the 2008 or 2009 S1 batch.

ACSI-boy, Thanks for your honest sharing. I would like to encourage you to choose your friends/cliques wisely, because their influence on you, at this stage of your development, may have a great impact on you.

Anyone with year 3 IP boy next year ?

The school bookshop only has one of the 3 language art books.

Anywhere else can we hunt for them ?

It's a bit too late to get from Amazon now.

Hi everyone, my son has been posted to ACS(I). Can someone share what time students need to report to school each day? I checked the school's website, but it didn't seem to be there.

Also, can any students in the north share how they get to ACS(I)? We live in Khatib, so I was thinking of taking the MRT down to Bishan, change to Circle Line and get off at One North, then walk to school. Thanks.

He decided to try for ACS IP but missed out by one point ( decided against going to many IP schools in the process ).

Got into ACS Express. Class is made up of students with a spread of 50 points.

He's never been happier:

1. Scoring high 70s in his exams in year 1.
2. Playing first team for a competitive CCA.
3. Keeping his fingers crossed for IP transfer in year 2.
4. Not as stressed as before.
5. Really having a great time.

Point is, let the kid enjoy his time. We can plan and plan but they will find their way.

As for me, if he messed up the transfer to IP next year there will still be ACJC.

I'm calm. Never been calmer.
Second that.

My son missed the cut off for IP by 3 points 2 years ago and ended up in ACSI Express (He was from GEP, had a PSLE score way below expectation, and his RI DSA wait list did not materialize into a CO).

He probably had the most stress free life in his school years for the past 2 years.

Joined a uniform group for the first time (which everyone needs to) plus another CCA.

Did OK for his year 1 and 2 exams I guessed

And made it to IP for next year.

Life will probably not be so easy anymore for him from next year onwards.

He was not that happy going to ACSI at first as most of his friends were in that school in Bishan but now he really loves ACSI.
Son was in Express too, and made it to IP in year 3. He has a very enjoyable 6 years there. Made many good friends, uniform group which is compulsory is a wise decision. Prepared him for leadership, discipline, and NS. very happy that he got into ACSI.

Though the time taken from Khatib to One-North is 33 mins (derived from the smrt network map), the walk from One-North to the sch is quite a distance.

I would suggest alighting at AMK mrt station, cross the road to take bus # 74. I believe the morning traffic from AMK to Dover should be quite fast.

I am staying at Bt Timah, near MGS, hv tried out the morning bus svc on a weekday from my place to Dover Rd, well within 10 mins journey.
