Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

Having survived PSLE. we still need to network with other parents with kids in the same Secondary school. While giving our teenagers their own space, we can update each other about the school.

Correction, if score 1 point (need min. 2 points) for Language B (SL or HL), or Language ab initio cannot pass / qualify for diploma.

Is there minimum requirement in Normal mother tongue (like minimum C6) and next year Sec 4 no need to take Normal mother tongue again?

Is there minimum requirement in Higher mother tongue (take in Sec 4 and like minimum C6) and no need to take mother tongue in JC/IB subsequently?

Thanks in advance for your advise.
Hi Mum1113,

Sec 3 students taking normal mother tongue @ "O-Level" scoring below grade B3 will be advised to drop Higher Mother Tongue in Sec 4 and retake the normal mother tongue in June. But I've heard cases of students scoring below B3 appealing to continue HMT in sec 4.

If the student passed higher mother tongue with a minimum of grade "D7", he will not be required to take mother tongue if he is in a JC offering "A-level"
. However, if he is taking IB, he still needs to take a group 2 subject which will either be "Language ab initio" or "Language B".

Hope this clarifies. :)
Thanks much! Didn’t know higher mother tongue with D7 is considered a Pass.

I know some parents who are doctors do follow the ACSI rugby boys when they go on tour, but that is on a voluntary basis.

That's even better than having a full time nurse tagging along but logistically very hard to implement for OEP since really large groups are involved.

Can I clarify?
Do the boys (on the O level track) doing MT do the O level MT paper in Sec 3 and then the HMT in Sec 4?

Thanks

Hi Mvm,

Boys taking normal mother tongue sit for O level MT in sec 4 June. If they are not satisfied with the grade attained, they can have a second go in November. They do not take HMT paper in sec 4.

An article from the dailymail

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) has developed a new tariff system which gives the International Baccalaureate an A-level equivalence for the first time.

An IB score of 38 points out of a maximum of 45 is deemed to be equivalent to a staggering five A grades at A-level.

Oxford and Cambridge typically ask for 40 points which equates to five-and-half A grades.

A relatively modest IB score of 35 points is worth four-and-a-half A grades at A-level.

Even 30 IB points reflects three-and-a-half As at A-level which is enough to secure entry to most academically selective universities.
