So do you want to 3rd language or Music? My ds' seniors do a-level music.

My dd is thinking of doing both music and 3rd lang at A level. Not sure is that possible? phankao, is your ds' seniors doing A level music because of the need of having a so-called 'contrasting' subject?

Not sure how to answer it in that way. I know that my ds would probably use Music as his Humanities subject since by the time he is in JC, he would have been doing Music all along (from sec 1).

I know most of the A-level students who do Music would be doing it bc they are really good in the subject(many good at performing) and it'd be easier for them to wing it then another subject. So it's "easier" points for them to work on.

I would've thought it unusual for most to do both 3rd language as well as Music? Wouldn't the subject schedules clash?

Thanks phankao, likely the 2 subject schedules would clash. I shall try to seek advice from JC.

Should be able to but need to go to a JC with music programme. Ah, i've seen an MEP harpist in my boy's school. Not common.

Thanks phankao,
But, my girl did not take MEP (Is it Music elective programme ?) during her 4 year in secondary school. Do u think I need to send her for any course in order to pursue A level music in JC ?

I think it's best you email an MEP teacher in one of the JCs that you are interested in or the MEP department in MOE to enquire on this. I'm afraid I'd give you wrong answers.

Hello,

I'm currently a Music Teacher and I went through the Music at 'O' levels and A level MEP and as of the school requirements, you would not require to take Music or MEP at O Levels to do so in JC. They do have a grade 8 requirement but usually they would go through some talks with the students that would like to opt for elective programmes to make sure that they are prepared for it.

As the curriculum is more than just practical, it would be great if some knowledge in music history etc. can be obtained prior to entry.

Hope this helps. :)
