hi Apron Mama

Just my 2 cents worth...

VJC gives me the impression that their students are all rounder whereas for NJC, I have the impression that they are more nerdy.

Both schools excel academically but I think VJ excels in terms of sports and I think the school is more vibrant.

Ultimately, I think you should let your child select as he/she will be the one studying.

Another consideration is distance. Choose the one nearer to home as it would save alot of time.

Hello,

I was from VJC myself. :D

I agree with Lucky that VJC gives the impression that their students are all rounded and the school environment is vibrant.
But after coming out of JC, i did my thinking.

Culture
In my time, VJC was seen as a vibrant school. NJC as a dull school perhaps becos of their uniform. School culture wise, i can guarantee that VJC is indeed vibrant. However i do not know for NJC, based on the website, the school looks vibrant as well! You got to go to the ground to check out personally..

Academic value, leadership value
Ultimately, JC education is a stepping stone to University. VJC and NJC consistently churn out quality students and leaders that goes to uni. So in terms of academic value n leadership value, i think there is not much difference.

Arts n Humanities
VJC has a Theatre Studies Drama(TSD) programme. http://www.vjc.moe.edu.sg/academics/dep ... d/home.php. can take a look here. if your child is interested in this subject. VJC is definitely your choice. VJC's humanties results are consistently good as well. Hence, if your child has a flair for the humanities subjects, he/she should consider VJC.

Sports and CCAs
Each JC has their own niches. Like for VJC, soccer is their niche. For NJC, there's canoeing. CCA can play a big part in selecting a JC. Your child will spend a bulk of his/her first yr and first half of the second year on CCA, should he or she joins a niche CCA.

People
Each school will have their own group of people. In my duration of study at VJC, i see different groups of students. hard working group(nerds or muggers), fun loving group(full-fledged play hard pple), the fun-watchers(half play, half study), smart gang(dun need study also get good results), etc. One cannot generalise the people in an institution. I have friends from NJC who are fun loving. Your child can always choose who he/she wants to mix with!

So the choice of JC depends on your child, what kind of character he/she is, if he/she enjoys and thrives in a vibrant environment, go VJC! If NJC is indeed vibrant as well, your reasoning can boil down to the CCAs and distance from your home.

Hope it helps!

I'm a student, now in secondary two.
I got 251 for PSLE and is now going to try out for both the NJC and VJC IP programmes. I'm not a straight A student but I'm passing with As, Bs and some Cs

Which one do you think i stand a better chance at?
I suppose NJC (:

looking for some help, and would just like to hear your comments :D
thanks

Just try both. It depends on your entrance test performance.

LOL, you can also put it this way, my friend, 257, selected NJC 1st choice and HCI 2nd choice, and got HCI instead, so he should be a NJC reject in HCI.

Any comparison of the A Level results for them?
