KiasuParents - Parenting in Singapore

Hi there,

Not sure if i should post this here as there arent any thread on ITE.
Any of you guys went to ITE after your O's ?

I was from ITE Macpherson from 1993-1995 in mechanical enggrg.

Wow i guess none here went to ITE.... Share with you guys some experience that i went thru.

Parents i met over time do ask me eh my kid go to ITE how ah ? or repeat O's better to go poly.....

For those that arent sure of this you can make it thru this system too.

After my O's, went to ITE and than to 2nd year Poly than to work and studied part time in PSB to get an enggrg degree.

So parents of kids that is going ITE dont lose heart, most important is to do well in ITE make it to poly 2nd year direct entry or 1st year for normal grades (im not too sure if this has changed over the years,anyone can verify?). Since we are already down, cant go down any further except up.

As we were feeling a bit demoralised when our old sec school frens were all going to poly, we made friends and found a way to motivate ourselves.
We XXXXX with our grades for each final exams!
Every grade diffrential is $100 bucks per subject

Example 3 of us. IF one of us scores and A and the other 2 a B...the A Grade guy would get $200.Imagine if one gets a D for a subject.

If no $$ to got to work liao part time and raise the $$ or ask parents and they quite surprised that we studying like siao.Although we compete with each other but we help each other as much as possible.

Very heartwarming to read about your experience.

Some kids, esp boys, just take longer time to mature. And ITE is definitely not "Its The End".

If society can just in general take off their coloured-lenses to look at this group of kids...

PS: usually for ITE kids who can make their way to Poly and then to higher levels, this breed of kids is with better life surviving skills / resilience as compared to those through train ones, meaning may excel much better than the latter and the sky is the limit...

If u watch the movie i not stupid, we were like those kids in sec school, haha.Yeah kinda agree with u, i took a while to actually understand what was going on!

But another heartbreak came when i applied for nus/ntu to do my 4year degree part time, they mentioned i didnt make the cut as my O's werent good and dont have much work experience ...sigh...
i was totally .....isnt that why i went to ite in the first place?
I got the news when i was in switzerland on job training with my new co...i felt sad yet again.....

Than saw an advert in the papers showing PSB (Uni of newcastle australia) offering a direct hons degree for enggrg, part time for 2 years!(But now its 3 years i heard, 2 years is ridiculous as classes were from mon to sunday!!) Anyway i signed up for it and was offered a place....Got a 2nd class Upper Hons in it after lots of effort and got a job in a U.S MNC firm that doubled my salary immediately....

mom n pops couldnt believe it!, than 2 years into the job, i had to leave cos i had some stomach illness which requires me to go to the toilet at least 7-8times a day.Co allowed me to go for no pay leave but its unfair to them cos they will not be able to hire anyone, so i resigned...i went to insurance, again mom n pops were

Er ur pay so good why leave..i said give me 2 years (I saved enough $$ to have 0 income for 1.5 years at tt point of time) in this new line...this year is the 4th year

So I assume the pre-natal kit you got from E-bay is operating at full capacity every night now?

Not every night but once a week or so however i still find it hard to hear the heartbeat lei....next visit to the gynae im gg to bring it along.

I can hear my own heart beat though hahaha

I guess no one here talk about ITE is bcos those who have taken this route no need to be kiasu anymore. Hence may not be interested in this website.

ITE is definately not the end. It is the learning attitute that leads him to success, not the path he takes.

u hv found a parnter!!

I'm one of those that went to ITE (last time is still call CIC) which later changed to ITE clementi after my first yr there. Was doing accouting. GCE 'o' level got 7 credits..sounds good hor but the points wasn't good enough to go poly business cos business faculty that time requires a mad 13points (for 5subjects) as an entry point.

I dun want to ended up in a enginerring course which i'm totally not interested in for 3yrs. So decided, to stick on business, I went in to CIC for 2yrs, obtain a cert in accouting, went into working line at the age of 19ys...went back to full time study 2yrs later at SIM with UOL programme..took 3yrs to get a honors degree with economics

I guess eventhough I'm lagging a few yrs behind, ultimately, i still obtain my degree at last

I'm in the insurance line too but as an underwriter instead

WAH STEADY! i had 6 credits but my points too many and worst my subject combo (chem/bio) can only go to Biz/ac course in poly (enggrg all can't cos science combo was wrong to begin with) but those are too tough to enter, instead ITE was able to offer enggrg course for me, so took it up.

Oh ours were known as STI than renamed to ITE Macpherson.
