AJC vs NYJC

Is there a large difference between the academic performance of Anderson and Nanyang JCs? My DD is contemplating between the two. She wishes to do Science 4H2 but her raw score (11) is just one point short of being eligible for 4H2 in AJC. However NYJC has different criteria and she is able to do 4H2 there. She would like to choose 4H2 so that she can assess which subjects suit her better at A level and will drop one to H1 if necessary (she is also unable to choose which subject to drop at this point in time as she has never done Econs). She has exemption from Mother Tongue so does not need to do Chinese in JC1. Her net score is 7 (minus 4 bonus points).

AJC is slightly better than NYJC for the Arts stream (which your daughter is interested in). NYJC is also not bad in terms of its Science stream where the school got Value added awards every year and School Distinction Award

Nevertheless since the criteria for both JCs are different, I encourage your daughter to choose NYJC since she won't feel that she only got in marginally and competition might be perceived to be lower in NYJC which gives her less stress. Moreover the environment in NYJC is much more conducive for learning and they have much more up-to-date facilities which will give your child a better learning experience. Even the library in NYJC is so nice, and many resources.

If your child wants a balance between good academic track record, conducive learning environment and accessibility of the school, NYJC is a good choice.
