hi all, not too sure if i should start this thread and if many mummies out there have the same mindset as me...
i've been pondering whether to take up a degree ever since i was married... thought that after wedding, i could get 1 easily... then it was honeymoon, then it was work, then it came ds1, and then dd2... and at last ds3.... out of so many yrs in my marriage, i suddenly recall why i forget totally about having to further my studies... is it very late for me to get a degree now??? but this was my dream though...
lately, i've been looking thru some institutions and i saw sma, opp bras basah... i super like the location, just behind the bus stop... after enquiring, just learnt that study was so flexible, only half day morning, and wouldnt disrupt my time with my dc at all... self study timing is majority so besides having convenient location, flexi hours and getting what i want, it doesnt disrupt my life... i'm in a dilemma now... and i hv not told me husband about it...
any reviews on sma qualifications?? is it recognised or is it just like some useless certs that employers dun recognise?? pls give me some advice...

Ok. I give u some support.
First must pat pat your back. 3 kids & you still got mood to study
Think it takes a lot of determination & discipline to do that.
I have done my 4-year-part-time degree b4 kids, so dun have much issues.
Did a 1yr post-grad dip/cert (cannot remember
) when kids ~ 4-6 yo.
For that, DH/family have to be supportive (mine was night lessons).
Now, ask me study I'm gonna
I could no longer get pass 2nd page of reading ZzzzzZzzzz & cannot remember stuff. I practically gave up & conveniently pass the responsibility back to my kids, so my kids are fully aware they have to depend on themselves.
Well, I sure dun sound like I'm giving advice
But it's good that you still wanna upgrade yourself. I support you !!

Hi, verykiasumummy. Yes, I support u too bec I enjoy learning, going to sch and don't mind exam
.
It is my plan to go back to sch every 10 yrs.
I did my 2.5yrs part-time at ard 30 y.o. But I was childless then. Need a lot of perservence to finish the whole course. Hard work and normally not enough sleep bec was working full-time, a stressful job with long hours then.
When I reached 40, I remembered my plan. But no courage bec I have 3 boys and already not enough sleep. So if still go back to sch, there will be no time left for me to sleep!
I hope I will go back to sch again when I am 50. I think should be ok then bec my DSs' psle will be over then. I shd hv the bandwidth to do it.
Hope I still have the 'just-do-it' mind-set.
Jia-you to you!

thks BeContented... guess when i got my higher qualifications, i would be contented as well...
i was very attracted to the course because they told me its only morning lesson and only for a short term, after that was all about self study.. i'm still in a dilemma and haven spoken to my dh.. dunno how he would react...
my kids will still hv my company cos i'm studying in the morning, so their night time is still homework time with me... shouldnt be affected if i see it this way..
i'm not going for any government uni, this sma opposite bras basah is the first time i hear of them... do u hv any advice? how to chk if their courses are recognised?

BeContented, you funny la...
I am pushing 40...dont think I wanna pursue the paper anymore. the school has been asking me to study for my masters so i can get a better pay but i'm done...i rather use the time for my kids or work on my business in building residual income...3-5 years of part-time study can work up to 4-6 hrs of devoted to the course...
so vkm i
you to wanna go and hit the books again. i'm saving for my kids education now.
like BeContented, i
you!

Hands up! I am thinking of furthering as well and saving up. Priority is to concentrate of relocating first before I embark on it.
Go for it!
I did my part-time degree when I was preggie with DD2 and DD1 was 1 year old. Sleep and weekends were burnt. I did my exam 3 days after giving birth and during confinement
(it didnt go down well with elders
)
It won't be easy but when you get that piece of paper, you will find it so worthwhile
Which uni woudl you be going for?
