In JC, you can choose 4 of your 6 subjects. the 2 compulsory subjects are GP & PW.
Arts stream students can choose 2-3 art subjects and 1-2 science subjects.
Science stream students can choose 2-3 science subjects and 1-2 art subjects.

So essentially, science students usually study more science subjects and vice versa.
There is a possibility for both arts & science students to both study 2 arts 2 science subjects.
However, These "hybrid" students are less common.

Science subjects include bio, phys, chem & maths.
Arts subjects include geog, hist, lit & econs.

Actually, there are many Arts subjects, like Literature, Econs, Geog, History, Music, AEP, KI and various third languages.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to add on about arts stream in JC. I took English lit, Econs, English language and linguistics and Math (all H2) as my contrasting subject. I was in the humanities programme in my school. Definitely though, I can say that Arts stream is hard. Arts in general is not about knowledge per se, but it is more about the skills behind the subject.
As for sciences, I believe it IS easier to score. Many of my friends scored very well in the science stream.
However, if your passion is truly humanities, then I believe that you should pursue your passion. Although I didn't score as well as I hoped, I do not regret my humanities education at all as I've grown and matured so much as a person. After all, humanities is all about learning about society, the environment, people around you and even yourself.
Good luck!

His personality is neither here nor there in subject choice. Just let him take what interests him most.
