How to apply for an art degree course?

I am an AEP student, with a neat collection of photos; I'm good with sketches and decent with oils and watercolour. Any advice what I should start doing to prep a portfolio? I'm interested in advertising/ film/ design comm.

On a side note, I'm actively involved in Chinese Orchestra, performing on average at least once every two months, is this helpful?
