hi, my child is studying in an ip school, where he does not need to take o levels in sec 4. however, he wants to apply out of the school to get into a jc at the end of sec 4. how can i do so, if he does not have any o level certificate? do i have to go to the jc personally and if so, what are my chances of them accepting my child?

Which level is your child in? If he's in lower sec, you can apply to join some jcs from Sec 3 but must do now. Write in to the school.

If he's in Sec 3, then you either approach the school during DSA (usually mid-yr) or JAE (after release of GCE 'O') next yr. If he's sec 4, you'll have to approach during JAE.

I suggest you write to jcs you are interested asap and ask for more info.

my child is in sec 2. he wants to apply to acjc, but it doesn't have the 4 year ip program, so he can only apply after he finishes sec 4. i went to check the website but dsa applicants only can use their cca talents to get in and my son isn't under the listed ccas. How can he get in if so? -frustrated-

When you mention "he wants to enrol in a proper jc instead of an ip programmed one." - Is there a difference between proper JC and those with IP programms ? Is it easier to get to local uni from proper JC than those IP ?

I am quite concern about the difficulties of A levels getting into local Uni. Anybody has statistics on how many % of those JCs getting into local Uni ? What are the other criterias or value added that the local Unis are looking for ? Which are most popular faculities nowdays other than law and medicine ? I have seen the admission for majority of the courses, top 10% are like AAA/B, so does that mean they only take 4 subjects ?

Maybe 2ppaamm can help to answer my ignorance (now is my turn, haha) OR another other parents can help ? TIA ...

Not sure why this thread is left unreplied for some time so let me attempt to do so.

Most courses are very competitive to enter nowadays. Some of the JCs have almost 100% entry to universities. (Usual suspects: hci, ri, nus high, nj, vs, rvhs etc )

Every year, there are about 12000 university places. (Estimated for nus, ntu and smu)

Then there are about 10,000 Jc students graduating. Mostly there is place for everyone, but many poly students and many foreign students are also coming to Unis here so that is why it gets competitive.
