Could any experienced forumers share your expertise on this?

As boys would need to attend NS after completing their A levels, when should they be applying for overseas unis? Should it be the year their A level results are released or a few years later?

Would those overseas unis hold the place for 2 years for our boys to complete their NS? Specifically, I am looking at unis in UK and USA.

USA:
Generally no issues with deferral - you can apply for universities in the 2nd year of JC (deadlines are November - January). If you don't get in, you can reapply in both years of NS. Make sure you arrange to sit for SAT/ ACT early if you plan on applying in 2nd year of JC.

Generally, the UK unis will only grant one year of deferral and ask you to indicate this in your application. There's no harm in applying in the 2nd year of JC though - some MIGHT just defer your offer for 2 years. If they don't, reapply in 1st year of NS for deferred entry (bearing in mind that deferred offers are generally harder to get). Otherwise, you can always reapply in the 2nd year of NS (regular entry). Deadlines are January 15, or exceptionally, October 15 (Oxbridge, Medicine, Vet Med).

Looks like I better get up to speed with the UCAS application, etc this year since my son will be going to JC2 next year.

Here's another reply ..... although for a local uni but I guess its applicable for overseas units too.

My daughter is in the 3rd year of poly doing accountancy. She plans to go NTU or overseas to further her studies. How do we go about for local and overseas university? Some guidance appreciated Thanks.
