## Applying to Universities

### Re: University application

Hi, Dear friends, any suggestions for application of Mathematics Subject in UK University?

1) My son wants to study Mathematics in Oxford/Imperial College/UCL/LSE, Further Math is required, however, no further math is offered in Singapore A Level, is there chance to enter such universities without further math?

2) Any other suggestions for application?

Thank you very much.

### Re: University application

We have H3 Math that can replace further math. In fact, I think H3 math is of an even higher standard than Further math. In any case, the new syllabus according to SEAB also has H2 Further Math now. So there is H2 Math, H2 Further Math and H3 Math. H3 being the toughest of all.czw168 wrote:Hi, Dear friends, any suggestions for application of Mathematics Subject in UK University?

### Re: Applying to Universities

Dear friends:

My son will take A Level this year and serve NS next year, he also plan to submit the application to Oxbridge next year in the 1st year in NS. In such, can he be allowed to take leave from NS to attend the interview with Oxford or Cambridge?

Thanks a lot.

Would a overseas uni offer 2017?

### Re: Applying to Universities

An overseas uni can offer 2016, 2017 or 2018. Ultimately when the guy enters uni is dependent on when the guy ORD. If the 2015 cohort guy is exempted from NS, clearly he can join uni as early as 2016. Else, after 2 yrs of NS, the earliest ORD may be Dec 2017 (some may ORD as late as June 2018). UK or US typically starts in Sep or Oct. Hence the 2 years gap.Jennifer wrote:Would a overseas uni offer 2017?

### Re: Applying to Universities

If you're not an SAFOS recipient or selected PSC scholar or Med student, you will go to unis only after ORD, even though the uni has offered you a place in 2017. That uni has to agree to hold the place for you till you ORD. Some won't.mjl wrote:An overseas uni can offer 2016, 2017 or 2018. Ultimately when the guy enters uni is dependent on when the guy ORD. Ask son to check with male seniors or teachers/scholarship counsellors from JC who are more familiar with the cycles. Mind the overseas uni application deadlines/interview/personal statement/testimonials, student visa, accommodation & SAT dates. You need to buffer ~18 mths to get all these done.
