2015 General Paper (8807) Paper 1

Postby TheGPTutor » Mon Nov 02, 2015 10:43 am

The paper this year was a very do-able paper in my opinion. It had three your society questions which is rather unusual. Many students focused on environment as preparation towards this paper. The science question (#12) asked is a reflection of 2015 college prelims science questions. Lastly, many also anticipated the theme of terrorism to be tested. That is reflected in question #4, although other factors could also be discussed, like Arab Spring, Occupy Movement and environmental issues, albeit not as extensive as terrorism.

1. ‘There is no such thing as bad publicity.’ To what extent is this true?

2. How far is it possible for one country to forgive another for its past actions?

3. How effectively is public health promoted and managed in your society?

4. ‘No cause is ever worth dying for’ Discuss. (the anticipated terrorism question is asked here.)

5. Consider the argument that the main purpose of television should be to educate rather than simply to entertain.

6. In your society, how well are the demands of the economy and the environment balanced?

7. ‘Parents have no right to impose their own values and beliefs on their children.’ Discuss.

8. ‘Books serve little purpose in education as technological developments become more sophisticated.’ How far do you agree?

9. To what extent should the arts in your society focus on local rather than foreign talent?

10. Should there be any controls over the production of energy when the need for it so great?

11. When a government’s finances for social welfare are limited, should they be directed towards the young or the old?

12. ‘Human actions should be based on scientific fact, not religious faith.’ How far do you agree with this statement?

For student reference only.

@zbear
@Augmum

I like to be on top of things. I get the paper early so as to analyse the paper and make a quick reflection on the prep and lessons organised for the year, as well as the validity of rumours that circulate each year about type of questions that will appear.

Marked overseas but moderated in Singapore. This is not the Cambridge paper, it is SEAB-Cambridge paper. So SEAB has final say vis-a-vis the bell curve.

Paper 2 was on Sports. A double passage was presented to the students. It makes the AQ component a little more challenging than AQ for single passage. There s been mixed reaction to Paper 2. Some found it challenging while others found it 'ok'. Students are always presented a passage which the examiner feels that students should know about. Hence the AQ discussion should not be too difficult as the examiner feels that this is a subject area that all students should be able to apply, argue and show relevance to society.

Prior to 2015, double passage was tested in 2008 and 2004.
