Hi my son wants to take H2 Biology in JC but the problem is his school does not have vacancy for Biology so he cannot take biology anymore. How do JC's respond to this type of cases? His subjects are

As far as I know, you need to have taken Biology at O levels to take it at A levels

Do you know why this is so? I heard that the A levels syllabus and O levels syllabus have a huge difference so i dont understand why. A bio student told me what he learnt at O levels couldnt be applied at A levels.

All Sciences at A levels require you to have taken the subject at O levels. I would assume this to be because the knowledge and understanding you learnt in secondary school would be the foundation upon which the A level syllabus can be built upon. While the application of knowledge may be different from O level to A level, an understanding of the earlier material is still imperative.

I don't know if this is possible. But will taking Biology at O levels at iGCSE level as a private student allow you to take Biology at A level in JC?

Can't speak for other schools, but HCI allows its IP students to do A level bio without having done it in high school.

I believe that for iGCSE, there is an option to take a written paper in place of the practical. The paper will have questions about practical things for the student to describe how to do experiments etc. Not sure whether there is that option with the Singapore O levels.

Some private schools do have a lab in their premises
