Hi, may I know, if one has an offer from Uni A and is still waiting for Uni B’s offer, due to the acceptance deadline, will there be any penalty if he accepts Uni A’s offer first, and subsequently if he gets Uni B’s offer, he gives up Uni A and goes for Uni B instead?

Anyone knows what sort of penalty will there be, if any, imposed by Uni A?

Well... if you don't take up an offer, then you don't take up the offer, ever. What can the university do, other than never to consider you again? Unless you have to pay some money or sign your soul away upfront, I don't think you will get any penalty except being blacklisted.

Thanks Chief. Just trying to understand how it works.

There are two Common Acceptance windows for local Uni applicants ie
1) 3 Jan - 24 May 2022 (for admission offers made before 24 May 2022)
2) 1 June - 17 June 2022 (for admission offers made between 25 May - 16 Jun 2022)

Uni A has given an offer and the applicant has to accept by 24 May. But Uni B is still processing and any offer from them will likely only come in after the first Common Acceptance window period. Am sure there are many applicants in this situation ie they will want to receive Uni B’s offer before making the final decision.

Why will the applicants be blacklisted when such a situation is common and not within their control?

It shows that the applicants are not really sincere to study the degree course offered by Uni A and having this "騎牛搵馬"
"ride cow, find a horse" attitude.

is uni B part of the joint application portal uni?
If so, uni B will need to offer before 24 May .

extract fr NUS online acceptance site:
As the Joint Acceptance Portal is the same across the six local universities, namely NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT and SUSS, you may be offered a course of study in each of the six local universities if you have met the requirements of each university. The Joint Acceptance Portal will reflect the place(s) that have been offered to you. Example, if you are offered a place each in NUS and NTU, the Joint Acceptance Portal will reflect the two courses.

You are only allowed to accept one offer from one of the six universities if you have been offered by more than one university.

Thanks @MyPillow! So the Joint Acceptance Portal will reflect any offers across the 6 universities. Will all the offers be made around the same time, so there won't be a case that one University makes the offer long after another?

my side only apply nus and smu. So we see smu offer in the portal first followed by nus few days ago.
we rec SMU offer 7early 8early ; plus sent marketing 3 or 4 times collaterals to student & parents
nus just offered BUT we realised different nus faculty offered timing are days to weeks apart when we compared with other friends.
since 24 may is nearby , these 6 local uni should send out to all applicants very soon.

QS (Top universities) has ranked SMU within the top 500 universities from 2017 to 2020 in its world university ranking. QS has placed SMU between 501-550 for 2021 in the world university ranking.

Compared to NUS/NTU ranked 11-13th,
SMU is easiest to get in and sends out acceptance invite eagerly.

Yes, both unis are part of the joint application portal. And Uni B has not offered anything yet - still stated as processing. Are you sure all 6 unis have to offer before 24 May? How do Uni waitlists work then (it seems like unis have waitlists as seen from the medicine course thread)? Won’t they have to wait until those with offers make a decision to accept or reject first before they can release any vacated slots to those on the waitlists? Which means the vacated slots will be made available to those on the waitlist only after 24 May? And that’s why they have the second offer acceptance window? :scratchhead:
