I was from NTU BAcc many many moons ago!! (vested interest keke)....

I think to decide between the 2, you also need to look at curriculum offerings and who the professors (eg Ng Eng Juan) are which also make a difference. I agree SMU grads are more articulate but then what kind of career are you expecting your child to embark on initially? Like me, like 60% of the cohort, I went on to the Big 6 then and started everything from scratch. I would say NTU curriculum prepared me very well for the technical knowledge I needed to do my job well. The way how you present yourself or lead projects etc, can be trained along the way as you mature with your job. However, if you think your child is more suitable for consulting or corporate advisory kind of job, perhaps SMU is a better training ground.

Hi Imp75

For Banking and Finance, NTU or SMU provides better training? My DS is offered DDP Accts and Biz in NTU, is it redundant to study Accts if he wants to work in Banking and Finance?

Tks

Nice to have but not compulsory.

FYI, there're many products and services offered, and many functions in a bank or financial institution. If you have Acct degree, you are likely to end up in Internal Audit or Corporate Finance department of a bank.

MMM wrote:Personally worked with couple of SMU grads and if I have a choice, would definitely choose SMU. Found them to be more well articulated and confident. My staff who came from those top schools throughout his school life told me that he is trained for that in SMU.

Yes, the accountancy degree can be used for ISCA membership.

Agreed with MMM.

Imp75: You were from that era when NTU BAcc required a high score. Calibre/tech skills of their Acct grads was very high.

Sure, but my point was: not absolutely necessary need Acct degree/cert/CPA to join this particular industry.

Econs, stats, math background can also join.

To add, FASS, IT, Law, Bizad, BSc all can join :)
