Legend of Zhen Huan

This Qing dynasty drama focuses on the schemes in the harem during Emperor Yong Zheng's reign. The emperor has a harem with several concubines, all of whom are fighting for power and his favor.

The empress (Ada Choi) is the leader of the harem, but she is unloved by the emperor. On the other hand, Hua Fei (Jiang Xin), also known as the Princess of Glory, is at the top of the harem's hierarchy, because she is favored by the emperor. Hua Fei loves the emperor but is also ruthless in her method towards any rival concubines. The rest of the concubines are forced into submission, by Hua Fei's powerful rule.

Zhen Huan (Sun Li) is a young and innocent lady who is chosen to enter the harem, along with her best friend, Mei Zhuang (Lan Xi). The two of them also befriend another new concubine, Ling Rong. The threesome is shocked to discover the harsh reality of the harem, in which they must constantly protect themselves to survive. Zhen Huan learn how to survive in the harem, with or without the emperor's favor. She eventually rise up in rank, and even challenge Hua Fei...

Hua Fei (jealous, cruel & ruthless) tortured Zhen Huan to kneel down under the afternoon hot sun, in front of some burning incense, until Zhen Huan miscarriage.

The burning incense contain some hidden “musk” - to cause miscarriage to pregnant women, who breathe in the incense, unsuspectingly.

This fragrant incense was given to Hua Fei, by emperor Yong Zhen, to prevent her from getting pregnant.
Reason: if Hua Fei is pregnant with a baby boy, her ambitious brother Nian Genyao, will groom Hua Fei’s son to become the next emperor, politically. Yongzhen emperor has to protect himself (ensure Hua Fei don’t get pregnant), as General Nian is ambitious & powerful, controlling great military army strength, in that era.

Mei Zhuang stood by her good friend. She also kneeled down together with Zhen Huan, get punished under the hot sun, by ruthless Hua Fei.

Just as Zhen Huan fainted from smelling too much incense under the hot afternoon sun, and miscarriaged blood flow onto the ground, her hero / savior – duke 17th prince (Yun li) dashed in to save her, in the nick of time. He scooped her up in his arms to safety, seek palace medical doctors’ help.

after Zhen Huan gave birth to a royal baby girl (Long Yue), she left the palace sadly, went to nunnery. She was bullied & badly treated by one of the bad-hearted wicked nuns there, called Jin Bai.

Yun Li (Guo Jun Wang) saved her one cold snowy winter night from almost death in the snow, - after Jin Bai accused her of stealing her bird nest, and kicked her out of the nunnery.

Yun Li love & protect Zhen Huan quietly, even as she sleep with her maids in a run down hut.

Duke 17th prince (Yun Li) did not die on his job mission, although his ship sank, as the ship was tempered with. He rushed back to nunnery see his mother (a nun), while Zhen Huan decided to return to palace, to seek revenge.

Zhen Huan is now pregnant with Yun Li’s twins (boy + girl).
But emperor Yongzheng mistaken, thought that Zhen Huan is pregnant by himself.

The wicked gang put up false witness(es), try to prove to emperor Yongzheng that the couple had an affair, and that the royal twins born (Hong yan & baby princess) are not his. They insist on doing a blood test (the water has been tempered with, under instructions from Empress)

Zhen Huan was about to drink the poison wine. She wanted to end her life.

But Yun Li asked her to close the window, then behind her back - quickly swap their wine glasses.
Yun li died, hugging her in his arms, without realizing that Hongyan is actually his son with Zhen Huan, and the other baby princess is his own daughter.

Want to ask, is Hong Li (Qianlong) Zhen Huan's real son or adopted son? Read the web synopsis somewhere and they seem to suggest Qianlong is Zhen Huan's adopted son. When did Hong Li appear? Before or after the twins? TIA
