Brain teasers

Hi guys, since you all are Einstein's after the Einstein, I created this topic, so that you can create brain teasers and share them with the rest of the KSparents, students, and the like. I am going to share one brain teaser for now. It took me a very long time to figure this one out, WITHOUT the help of the internet, so here goes:

1) You are standing at the centre of a circular room of a certain radius. The room has a low wire fence around it. Restricted to running around the perimeter, is a large, sharp-fanged, hungry ghost. You can run at a certain speed, while the ghost can float four times as fast. What is your running strategy to escape the room? (Clue: the ghost can be standing anywhere around the room, it doesn't have to be opposite you. And the radius of the room doesn't really matter either.)

In about 2-3 days, I will reveal the answer. BTW, it is not a trick question, so please don't put answers like, it was a fake halloween trick so i can turn it off and walk out. TIA. :D

At Chief's behest, I changed the word "field" to "room" and the word "dog" to "ghost".

Have fun! :D

Attached to the wire fence (and restricted to running around the perimeter) is a large, sharp-fanged, hungry dog. You can run at a certain speed, while the dog can run four times as fast. What is your running strategy to escape the field? (Clue: the dog can be standing anywhere around the field, it doesn't have to be opposite you. Muffins, change the field to "room" and dog to "ghost" to make it easier for us KiasuParents to comprehend :)

My guess:
If the ghost is restricted to running around the perimeter, I can just stand in the centre of the room. Is this the answer?

Good guess tutormum, but you actually have to escape from the room.

Climb over the fence, open the door and get out.

Sorry, CJS, that is wrong. Since the ghost is 4 times as fast as you, it can reach there in 1/4 of the time you would need to get there.

eh, since the ghost is attached to the wire fence and restricted to floating around the perimeter, then if you run 1 full round, the ghost would be trapped at the start position and you can just run away before the ghost floats back?

Sorry, that is wrong, if you see the question again, you can see that it is restricted to floating around the perimeter, and not tied to the wire fence.
