Utility Bill.. Overcharging issues

Would like to share this weird encounter with SP Services.
We were away for three weeks around December last year. When the Jan bill came with higher charges they say they will 'balance out' in our next bill. This month's bill stayed with the increased figures, and the funny thing is the graphs at the back of the bills actually indicated higher electrical and water consumption for the month when the house was vacant.
I wonder if this is normal.. .. :?

they normally take meter reading every 2 mths. So they r claiming that they took in Nov and the charge for Dec was based on 'forecast', ie, some estimate based on previous x mths.

If you usage in Dec is 100 units, and they charge u for 200 units based on yr their estimate. Come Jan and yr usage is 300 (total 400 for Dec & Jan), they will charge u the balance 200 units in Jan.

This is usually how it works.

Pretty normal. They do not check the meters monthly. Nothing to worry about.

My family was away for 2 wks in Nov as well..... and the bill for Nov was abnormally high ( extra $120 ). Strangely for Dec, Jan - it fell back to the normal usage as Sep, Oct.

maybe there is a HOLIDAY surcharge that we do not know of ?

interestingly, SDP wrote something today on utility charges

It has happened to us. But it's coz they take meter readings once in two months. The bill will be normalized at the next billing cycle.

Same for us, only our bill didn't normalized. It increased in Jan, and the Feb bill stayed same as Jan... ...

my bill generally down in Dec due to a combi of out on holiday, lesser school uniform, use less aircon since weather cooler.

Jan will shoot up...school restarts, more washing in prep for CNY etc.

AuntieM, should call to check with them and check on your meter. The graph is based on estimated reading right?
