foreign exchange losses will eat away the extra interest income from higher rates

zero sum game plus exchange risk

I have a small sum of money parked in HSBC multi currency account. Unlike other banks foreign currency deposit, this one requires only a minimum SGD2,000. The catch is interest rate not as high but allows me to have exposure to foreign currencies.

As for unit trust, do consider online platforms such as POEMS, DollarDex or Fundsupermart, etc

Foreign currency investment like any other investments has a certain degree of risk, hence the higher interest! I have some extra funds put away in DBS foreign currency account. Given the violatility of the market, I wouldn't choose a long tenor. For starters, I would go with three months, and see how the Aussie dollar performs from there on.
