I just hoping to hear your thoughts, am truly in dilemma as hubby is making a big fuss. I received a sum of inheritance about $200k after my dad passed away. My mom is still around and I think I am still accountable to support my mom. My hubby thinks that inheritance money 50% should be his right I told him its should belong to my mom since am accountable to take care of my mom.

Appreciate feedback.

My condolences

I am no lawyer but I do not believe that your hubby has any legal claim to the inheritance that you received from your late father.

Nevertheless, do handle this situation with extreme care as it may break family and marriage.

Where there is no will, the assets will be divided according to the laws of intestacy and based on the Singapore's law, your mum would be entitled to 50% of the assets and the remaining equally among the children.

http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/aol/search/d ... %3A0;rec=0

Assets will be distributed in accordance to the will if there is one.

Am not a lawyer but had many discusssions with my lawyer in this regard to ensure that my children are protected. Unless you and your husband divorce or set up a joint account, I cannot really see how it can be his except from a 人情perspective. But I may be simplifying the matter.

Your husband has no legal nor moral right to the money. I am sorry you are in such an ugly situation.

As this is inheritance money, it should be used wisely like supporting your mum or education funds for your kids.

This money is unlike lottery money where you share with your hubby and splurge on gifts and make yourself happy.

I am sorry if I am rude, but I feel that a decent hubby will not kick a big fuss over inheritance money with his wife. Pls handle this situation carefully.

If your spouse is a responsible husband....he should not even question on how much your late father left you.....

Woman must know how to protect yourself....

Men when they have $$$ , their mind cannot think straight....

Men when they have $$$ , they will look for younger women.... :skeptical:

So must keep their $$$$ , even they run away /unfaithful, you still have the $$$$

Look at those men with status and $$$$ ....all cannot think straight ....

I think your late father will rise from his coffin if you share the money with your spouse....

Share it with your mom....

your mom wld have received some money too prob >$200k? Perhaps your dh is thinking of this, that is why he said what he said. Do talk to your dh to find out more. Since, you feel strongly abt keeping the money as rainy day funds for your mom, I'm sure your dh can & will understand it.

I am shock to see that a hubby will demand that his wife shares the money that is inheritance from his wife father.

If he is a decent man. He will not demand for that monies!!! This is a difficult situation to handle. If didn't handle properly, if will break your hubby and your relationship.

Why not put this amount aside as an education fees for your kids and fund for your mother. Any balance will be shares among your kids when they grow up. Treat it as your inheritance to your child. So you and your hubby wouldn't get that shares.

To me, we wouldn't know how is our relationship with our partner in future. So to keep some money for ourselves and child is important.

Yea. You are definitely still accountable to take care of your mum. After all she is the one who raise you up. She has all the right to ask you to take care of her...

As for your hubby, not much comment honestly, only that real men don behave like that. I am sure he would also take care of his mum if he is in your shoes instead

Thanks for all the replies and it's feel good to know what am doing is right. Am keeping the money for my mom and remaining for my kids. Over this matter, the quarreled was so bad I brought the kids to stay over at my mom house for almost 3 months. He cut off my credit cards and allowance for kids. I learnt the hard way, woman must always keep money for herself no matter how good the man is.
