Dd's friend had offered to give dd her 'old' iphone cos the friend got a latest version. dd was so tempted to take (relatively new one) but declined in the end. I am glad she didn't take it.

Then, it was ds' turn where his classmate asked him if ds wanted his sister's iphone. ds was also tempted but didn't take up the offer. I am glad that he didn't take it too.

Why do parents allow their children to give away their 'old' smartphones freely? Isn't there a better way to handle unwanted smartphones which still have some value? Have you encountered the same?

Thinking about it, the resale value of an old phone may be quite negligible. I do think that it is better to keep the old phone in case the new one spoils or malfunctions... then at least you would have a phone to use. Trade-ins may also be a good option

Sometimes, it could be that the parents are not aware their children are giving away their old phones or it could be these parents are super rich so they tell their children to give them away to their 'lesser off' friends?

Anyway, both Samsung n Iphones have good resale values.
