I have been invited to a church wedding by a JC friend whose son is getting married.
We hardly keep in touch over the years until about two years ago and we met twice so far over lunch.

Wonder if I should give a gift (can't think of what to give) or red packet (don't know how much to give) for church wedding...
I understand that there will be lunch buffet.

Appreciate your kind advice. :thankyou:

Watched this a couple of days back - Talking Point .

It didnt state Market rate for church wedding but you may want to use restaurant dinner rate as benchmark to adjust.
As for gifts, just think of what you don't want to receive and don't give . The most useful gift I received for my ROM lunch reception was a unique wedding theme photo album. Received gold trinkets too. Those wedding figurines and tea cups I received were still in my store room. We received a steamboat pot too! So fun. :dancing:

Noted with thanks.
I don't really know the son of this friend.
Yes, a wedding-theme album would be appropriate but I think the bride would probably receive one, if not more.
so I would give a ang-pao whose amount is to be determined in due course.

Ang Pao is less stressful to prepare as a wedding gift. But you have to generous enough to put a sum that would make a newlywed couple happier. :)

Depends on each individual to give less or more. Now the economy is down i guess will be lesser giving in amount

For a newlywed couple, a cash gift is a great help.

I was wondering if what would you do if you are in this kind of situation:
I was invited to a friend's wedding and the mother of the bride said to us as she handed over the invitation that the couple would be happier if a red packet has this $$$$ minimum amount.

If the amount is what I was going to give anyway, I would just give that amount. If it's more than I can afford, I would just decline to attend (and not give anything at all).

I might feel offended and change my mind in attending the wedding. In the first place, it was the mother not the bride who imposed a certain amount for the red packet and I think it is way too much for her to control things on her child's special day.
