DSA 2020

Unlike entry to Primary Schools, admission into Secondary Schools is based on meritocracy. PSLE results are used as key admission criteria. Discuss everything related to PSLE and selection of Secondary Schools here.

Oh yes.. ‘what r ur hobbies’ - if an interviewer is trying to suss out how dedicated u r to that domain, will there be a ‘less than favourable impression’ given if ur hobbies named are different from the domain? Kids can be interested in more than 1 thing in their lives right.. but some can be just crazy over 1 topic for a long time too.. what do u all think?
Not sure if it’s good or bad, right or wrong but my DD gave totally different answer from the domain she applied to. She is a very active girl and there are other sports that she enjoys/ plays during her leisure time.

Mine gave totally different hobbies from DSA domain.. for example as different as like naming music/ art as hobby versus DSA via sports. As frank as he can be, but also shows very varied exposure n not ‘totally dedicated’ to just the sport.. Anyway what’s done is done.

Some schools do specifically ask what you do asides from. your domain area! So that's good. Shows you have a life otherwise!

Yeah u can also see it from that angle. But for some ppl, the dedication to domain can be more intense.. not sure what they are looking for but the fact was stated like that, so will see if it puts the person in good light or not..

For some domains - i'm sure even subject areas like english or bilingual or leadership, having interests or hobbies in other areas gives them a broader perspective and these experiences actually helps enrich their domain area, not distract from it. That's also one reason why young children should not specialise too early.

Yup get ur point. Just wondering since the interview was explicitly supposed to be about the ‘dedication to the sport’. It was mentioned in the interview email..

For example.. I have a friend’s child who was so much into his sport that he practiced on his own n during free time every other day like it was his life. Mine is also into the sport but practiced less intensely since he had other hobbies to pursue during free time. Both made their own choice in that sport without parental pressure and stuck with it for years.

In this comparison, how will the interviewer see the both?

Hi 👋

My kiddo hasn’t heard from them too. Her selection e-test was on 7th July but her domain wasn’t science, a different subject. When was your DD’s e selection? We are taking it as she’s not shortlisted.
