Hi,

Can I have some view on how kids behave from switch of Pri to Sec?

As compared to P6, I really dun see my son studying for Sec 1... U asked him has he finished his work? he said 'yah' and drowned himself in his bo...oooks again..

1st term result out : around below average..

Is it like that one?

They are in teenagers now, somehow I got problem in psychoing...

They are giving you the attitude that they know what to do...

I got this same feeling as you. Ds is in sec 1 too. I haven't really seen him studying and he is always glued to his Mac. Worse is that there are no textbooks for some subjects and most of the work is online. So it is rather difficult to know what they are learning and doing.

Like you, I also asked if he has finished his work and he would say yes, and then ask to go into his FB to mousehunt.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that he knows what he is doing and that everything will be ok.

Progressing from P6 to Sec 1 is a big change in environment, teaching method, number of subjects,.... and of course parents and school expectations. Though 1st term has ended, but to a sec 1 student, P6 was only a few months ago. On paper, P6 and Sec 1 switch is a step response, however, it is difficult for them to wake up on their first day of sec 1 to have a complete switch of mentality.

I supposed the maturity progression of a sec 1 students will be gradual instead of an instant step response or switch over. I would assume girls would mature earlier than the boys. My boy is in sec 1 this year, other than seeing him grown taller, I haven't seen a significant change in his habit and mental maturity at home, not sure about at school.

Yeah, me as a Sec 1 student, I do my work during recess in school, and I go home and start sounding the horn. But my test results haven't dropped a bit. Or rather, got drop in position (cause I'm in a better school, so I can't ask for number 1), but still up to standard.

hey, nice to hear view fm a teenager...tell me (us)... how do you feel when your mums nags you to do your homework? How do you want your parents to show love to you? i believe you don't want hugs and kisses any more??

I know I nag at him too and feel that I evolving into naggy monster mum.

Yah lor, I need to pretend not to gan zhiong too much but really can't help, seeing him always idling really make me face long.. long...

He told me he is preparing, to believe or not to be believe?

Maybe shld let him lose one time , then he will know .. sigh...

Yes, I agree with you that we should just let them be and see what the outcome will be like. Sometimes kids need sometime to relax... so that idling that you see could be your son's way of chilling out.

I'm trying to tell me myself to relax and not be such a kan cheong spider.

He did ok in the PSLE, as usual, with a lot of prodding and nagging.
