As we all know RI's DSA begains today at 12 noon. I am siging up under the mother tongue domain. My english is weak but my other three are quite strong. Last year during my P5 i got 73 (definately not in top 10) for english, 91(top) for mother tongue, 89 (second) for science and 90 (not sure) for math. I am also using other achievements like 3rd in the inaugral young photoshop guru award, Asian league vex robotics championship bronze, my artwork being displayed in the childrens art museum in Oslo Norway , mother tongue competitions .etc. I am a prefect who has served the school for 3 years (including this year). Ri is my dream school. What are my chances? Any competition?

I tried last year, and let me tell you, the experience's simply excruciating. Rather, let me put it this way - you have 1500 people fighting for the tiny winy 200 spaces RI has opened up for DSA. Not just so, 1/4 or more of the places are reserved for GEP students. Because you're not applying under the GE stream, I presume you're not a GEP student. Then, as you know, you would need to go for GAT test, which is actually test of your spatial ability - ability to recognize patterns. Rather queer test, drives you crazy cause you have no time to experiment with how the shape moves. You're only given 40 min to complete 40 questions. After that, it would be your half day test, and according to my friend, they'll test you on olympiad standard questions and see if you can answer any. There wasn't any interview for non-GEP students last year, I don't think there's any as well this year. Oh yes, don't apply RI only. Try others as well.

English is very important. All those projects require you to write. There's lots of writing for English literature/language art too! As you mentioned that your English is weak, hope you don't hate or have problems in writing.

Try more schools. Find out more about each school. My son loves the school. The seniors are very supportive. But he said it is not a happy school. I don't see any student smile whenever I fetch him after school. My son said the daily stress level is as intense as PSLE preparation.

Well, lang arts isn't fun at all. Even in a chinese school like HCI, lang arts have been driving students crazy. The syllabus plan might seem fun and relaxing, but you'll have tests. On everything.
