Which Secondary school to choose in the East

Unlike entry to Primary Schools, admission into Secondary Schools is based on meritocracy. PSLE results are used as key admission criteria. Discuss everything related to PSLE and selection of Secondary Schools here.

1. For SAP school: AHS vs CCHM, which one is better? I hear AHS is good in sports, which CCA is CCHM good at?

2. For all girl school: TKGS vs Cedar Girl (O level)
1) 2016 AHS O level result is excellent, not sure about CCHM, but CCHM is affiliated to NYJC, I guess that's why it was becoming more popular than AHS last year. (AHS affiliated to SAJC btw)
2) In term of O level results, Cedar should be a better girl school. Cedar's COP is also way higher than TKGS. But you also need to consider the distance between the school and home....
And depending on how you define "average", to qualify for Cedar Girl, your daughter's result would need to do a lot better than "slightly above average".

in terms of O level results : Cedar Girls Sec produce stronger results, as the quality intake of Psle students are better.
may refer 2016 O level results :-
http://cedargirlssec.moe.edu.sg/accolades/academic

the T-score cut-off-point for P6 students, to enter Cedar Girls, is high : at least minimum 250 or above.
in one recent year PSLE batch, the Cut-off-point (COP) was 250 (for O level) to enter Cedar, and 254 (IP Cedar) : 4 points, difference.

In contrast, Tanjong Katong girls (TKGS) in one recent year accepted students, with COP 229. There is a big difference, between Cut-off point 229 vs 250. But usually, TKGS COP is around 23x, that year 229 was exceptional.

Amongst the 4 schools u named (above) : Anglican High, Chung Cheng, TKGS and Cedar : Cedar is the one, that take in P6 students with highest COP, for O level.

For O level track girls who perform well at end of Sec 2, they may be invited to join Cedar (IP) programme, starting IP in Sec 3, onwards.

The other way round, also apply. That means, if IP students in Cedar fare poorly, or who cannot cope with IP, by end of Sec 2, school will request that they switch back to O level, instead. O level preparation need sufficient two years time-frame to prepare, get ready to sit for the major exam. Cedar is strict. School closely monitor the IP students, check to ensure at regular, interim check-point(s), that they are able to cope with the IP academic rigor.

Cedar Girls Secondary (all girls school) is not Affliated to her Cedar co-Ed primary school, although they are located side by side each other. Girls from Cedar primary school, have to enter by merit, into Cedar Sec.

But first, u need to find out whether got any school bus go your house to fetch students to Cedar in the morning, because there are some areas that the school bus don't go to pick up.

here is the school bus contact number (driver operator), to check if got school bus go your area :-
http://cedargirlssec.moe.edu.sg/hidden/ ... rt-service

Cedar is located inside a very, very long, deep lane called "Cedar Avenue", nearby Joo Seng housing estate.
If parents got car to fetch kids there in the morning, no issue. Else tough & v tiring, walking in and out so far the deep lane inside, both ways to and fro every day.

for Secondary schools: they usually provide school bus 1 way, in the morning.
but, some Secondary schools like Temasek JC, National JC : dont even provide school bus 1 way, in the morning

Hi Floppy and phtthp,
Thanks for the advice, agreed that to enter Cedar, the standard has to be above average, hence I'll drop this from my selection, furthermore, the school is really not very accessible by public transport.

We went to TKGS open house last week, my girl doesn't seem very impressed by the school environment, probably it is due to the temporary holding school at an old building. Another reason is she is from a SAP school, this is the first time she went to a school with student in other race, a bit of culture shock to her. I like this school as I feel the students are more vocal and sociable as my DD is very quiet, lack of self-confident and introvert type, I think a full girl school may help to change her character, while DD seems to prefer a co-ed school though.

Seems like she's more inclined to a SAP school and co-ed school, so I probably have to choose between AHS or CCHM only. And after today's teacher meeting sessions, think i should also explore TKSS if DD is not interested with all girl school.

I'm considering a few secondary schools in Bedok and Tampines area for my DD. Does anyone have any feedback on these few? Academic and non-academic wise...

- St. Hilda's Sec
- Dunman Sec
- St Anthony Canossian Sec
- CHIJ KC

TIA!

Yes. But it's beyond what my DD can achieve :) Hence I have shortlisted those that she probably could achieve within her abilities.

If ur child score 252 PSLE T-score : would you prefer child to go Temasek JC (IP), or go to Anglican High (O level)?

(suppose TJC (IP) COP is 252)

The 2 better schools absent in yr list are

Temasek Secondary and Tanjong Katong Girls Sec. These two schools offer gce o level economics in Sec 3 and 4, a subject if yr child can do well, will benefit him / her in future. Econs is a useful subject, and the gce o level exam subject syllabus to be tested is Econs, 2286.

Temasek Secondary school also offer o level principles of Accounting

http://temaseksec.moe.edu.sg/programmes ... ts-offered

Those 4 schools inside yr list :
Do not offer gce O level Econs.

It is wiser & more beneficial, to study O level Econs, than to study O level History / Geography, given a chance.
