RI or HCI

Unlike entry to Primary Schools, admission into Secondary Schools is based on meritocracy. PSLE results are used as key admission criteria. Discuss everything related to PSLE and selection of Secondary Schools here.

Not between these 2 schools but the top schools in general. Certain schools with strong alumni will discriminate to some extent. eg Manager who is an old boy will have a tendency to give a prospective employee who come from the same school a second look.

i would choose hwachong.

i understand from my cousins that RI boys are very competitive and have huge egos. the RI boys even look down on the girls from RGS.

not sure if it helps, but in HCI, if a student produces consistently good results, the teacher can allow him to opt out of the end of year examination.

It's a fine line between being 'egoistic' & confident. Also gotta do with upbringing at home. I know of some Rafflesians who achieved a great deal & humble at the same time.
But I guess the more traditional & Chinese upbringings in HCI does instill some form of humility in the students. During my time, rumor had it that HCJC had the highest abortion rate.

Hi Karu,
Agreed :)
I am an former HCI student and also a former RGS teacher.
As a tuition teacher now, I have a lot of students from RI/HCI. Many students from RI are humble while there are few HCI students might not as humble as we expected. It also greatly depends on upbringing at home.

Btw, I also knew that rumor when I was a HCI student. I do not think that is true.

If one school is 30 minutes away and another is 50 minutes away, is it wiser to choose the nearer one or does 20 minutes difference not a major concern? Both are very good schools but with different culture.

One day about 40min to and fro, in terms of difference of travelling time.
If he likes the culture of the school, even it is further away from home, shall still go for that school. as u mentioned, both are good schools. :)
