Hi parents. Going to choose SCGS or MGS as the first choice in S1 option. Anybody can advise me the strengths of each school? Which school has a better O level results? Thank you.

You are not choosing MGS for her IP program?

MGS will offer some of its top students a 4 year IP programme starting in 2014 for its Sec 3 batch. So if you're interested in an IP programme leading up to an IB Diploma at ACSI, you might want to consider MGS. Note though that this is only for its top students.

Both MGS and SCGS offer SBGE. MGS has 2 SBC classes who are stretched more than the other mainstream classes. SCGS offers its top 2-3 classes many modules in its Talent Development Programme. Some of these are very interesting, including exchange programmes in the US, HK etc.

If I remember correctly, in terms of O level results, SCGS has the edge over MGS.

Yr information is correct. Both schs are leaders in english and el at 0-level with MGS marginally better in chinese and SCGS better in maths n science. Based on their past students' performances at IB taken thru ACSI, SCGS has performed marginally better.

Hi, thanks all for the replies. One point i am not quite clear. Does "IB taken through ACSI" mean that some of the SCGS students will take IB training at ACSI or they prepare for the exam themselves?

I think what Edureach was trying to say is that of the SCGS and MGS students who opted to go into ACSI after their O levels, the ex-SCGS girls fared better than the ex-MGS girls.

Thanks, jtoh. We prefer schools that are academically strong. Just wonder if i compare River valley with SCGS, which one is stronger? RV seems more economical if the two schools are equally strong academically. We are australians so the fee at scgs would soar to around $1000 per month. Can you advise?

Is your dd taking Chinese? HCL is compulsory at RVH and the standard of Chinese is rather high there. If I'm not mistaken you need to meet a minimum grade for Chinese to be promoted each year.

RVH is a SAP school so there is a strong focus on Chinese literature, culture and I think there are exchange programmes with schools in China. So if you're interested in immersing yourself in a bilingual environment with good exposure to Chinese and China, RVH would have an advantage over SCGS.

SCGS has a good Talent Development Programme for its top 2-3 classes. There are exchange programmes with schools in the US, HK etc. Read here for more details: http://www.scgs.edu.sg/content/view/31/36/

The two schools are very different. It really depends on your dd's preference and inclination. And how deep your pocket is. :D

Haha, a deep pocket will solve all the puzzles.

Thanks very much, jtoh. You are being very helpful and now i have a clearer mind to make the decision. Thanks again.
