All depends on ur kid.whether he/she is suitable for it or not.and whether they really want to go JC also important.some prefer to go poly after their O level

It's basically your choice. Some people want to skip O Levels and go directly to A Level. The others ... I've heard some of them are afraid that they won't do well for A Levels and they don't have an O Level cert, just the PSLE one. So, yeaaa.
