My son scored only 194. He is a very good boy and had been easily intimidated by bullies and hence the poor performance. Is it good for him to go to a good sch like Bukit Panjang High or Commonwealth Secondary sch to do 5 year normal academic?

Or should I still send him for sch which accept 194 for express. Is there any school with caring teachers and overall well behaved kids although not perform so well academically in the west - Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok, Bukit Timah and Jurong or even Woodlands?

Pls help me!!!

If you decided to let your boy do normal academic, maybe you could check with those schools that allow your child to do express stream if he does very well in Sec 1 or 2. Looking at normal academic, you might want to consider Kranji Sec. My neighbour's daughter didnt perform well for her PSLE and went to Kranji Sec to do normal academic. According to my neighbour, the teachers there are very encouraging and her girl did well in her N level and sat for her O level this year. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. I know that Kranji is good but I did find them a bit too obessed with discipline on punctuality, hair/skirt/socks length etc. Therefore, I am considering Bt Panjang, Swiss Cottage and Commonwealth Secondary as these accept higher COF for norm acad. Have you heard about them whether their teachers are encouraging?

Despite the merit of doing 5 years, I was thinking if there is any good express school in the west which I can consider which may not do so well academically but with good school culture i.e. good kids and encouraging teachers.

Swiss Cottage seems to have really good character development. They went to my Pri Sch coz I was P6.

Bt Panjang is a good school. They are in Band 1 for Express as well as N(A). They also have achievement award for Academic Value Added so your ds should have chance to improve his results there. Heard that the students are well-behaved and helpful.

You can try to get feedback on the culture there from BPGH's parent networking group.

Can anyone tell me how BPGHS do the job to achieve band 1? Was it from clever teaching or sheer grilling? I understand a Kiasu parent who graduated from there said lower secondary sch was given higher secondary sch work to stretch them. If this is the method, it is not suitable for my son as he learns well from basics.

If they cover the basics and still stretch the students or if the teachers will give extra coaching to students weak in foundation, I don't think it's an issue. You have to go ask parents who have kids there. If the sch only teaches basic, the results cannot hit band 1. Pls go visit the parents networking group for BPHS as I doubt they will be checking the PSLE forum much.
