Do you think there will be a drop or increase in the COP of RGS? If yes, how much do you expect will be the change?

TIA

Last 3 years COP
COP 2009 263
COP 2010 260
COP 2011 260

My guess is 261. Last year when the top 10% was up from 248 in year 2009 to 249 in year 2010, i observed that it had pushed up the RGS COP by 0.5 point, meaning although the COP was 260, not all with 260 got in.
So this year the top 10% is upped again by another point from 249 to 250, my guess is it will push the COP by another 0.5 PT and becomes 261.

Was top 10% 248 in 2009 and 249 in 2010? I had the impression it was 250 for both. I could be mistaken of course.

I think a more accurate measure of COP for schools like RGS/NYGH is the EESIS COP because these schools take in the top 3% of the students. EESIS was 261 in 2009 and 260 in 2010 so I expect COP to be around the same this year. What might drive the COP for RGS up is if more students select RGS over NYGH. We shall see in a few weeks time. :)

From what see over the past few years, my "own conclusion" is the EESIS has one to one impact on top schools COPs, meaning if the EESIS drops by one point, the COPs will also drop by one and vice versa. Top 10% has 1 to 0.5 impact on COPs. So when EESIS drops by one point and top 10% up by one point, the final impact is -0.5 point.

This year EESIS maintains the same and top 10% up by one point so the total impact is +0.5

Anyway, this is only my own opinion.

Interesting analysis. :)

btw, where can we find out the top 10% of years 2009 & 2010? I think they're hidden somewhere on this forum?

I can confirm top 10% were 248 and 249 respectively in year 2009 and 2010. because my DS took the PSLE in 2009 and I continue to monitor the EESIS and top 10% bcoz my DD was one of them taking the PSLE this year.

Ok. Thanks. :) So for 2009 the range of scores from top 10% to 4% was wider than that for 2010. A function of the overall tougher papers.

Interesting.. Get a feeling that it will be 260 or 261.. Lets wait and watch.. I wonder how entry of vjc will affect dhs n other ip schools.. I guess rgs and nygs will remain unaffected

I don't think it'll impact IP schools as much as the top O level schools such as SCGS, MGS, SNGS, CHS etc.

I think with VS offering IP, COP for DHS could be slightly lowered.
