Hi

Can anybody help me with this qn?

If I buy 2 plates and 4 cups, I would have $7 left. If I buy 4 plates and 2 cups , I would need another $5. Given that a cup costs $2.50, how much money do I have at first ?

Thank You

Let the amount of money at first = M

2 Plates + 4 Cups + 7= M
2 Plates + 10 + 7 = M
2 Plates + 17 = M........(1)

4 Plates + 2 Cups = M+5
4 Plates + 5 = M+5
4 Plates = M...............(2)

(1) =(2)
2 Plates + 17 = 4 Plates
2 Plates = 17

At first, 17 + 17 = $34
