Secondary Schools Selection for my daughter

Postby angeltan24 » Sat Nov 24, 2012 2:46 pm

Hi  ,my daughter had just gotten her psle result and she got 238.I heard that some selected schools have SAP(Special Assistance Plan)and the selected schools will have more benefits.I was thinking of selecting some secondary schools like Anderson Sec,Nan Chiau and CHIJ Secondary(Toa Payoh). My daughter prefer Anderson Sec but for express,it will require 245 to enter and my daughter had only gotten 238(a gap of 7 marks)but she takes higher chinese and I was wondering if Anderson(245) or CHIJ(241) will accept her in.Does anybody have any idea? Please reply! Thanks!:)

Hi Angeltan,

I have a student last year who had 235.
She was posted to her 3rd choice st Theresa
as it was affiliated to her Pri Sch.
Her first choice was CHIJ toa Payoh.
The cop then was 241.
A gap of 6 marks.
She appealed after she got her posting and
she is in Chij toa payoh now.

If you want to get into the Sch,
indicate it as first choice.
If really didn't get, then appeal.
But risky.

She was lucky bcos she's an CHIJ student,
So Chij toa payoh readily accepts her.

Just to share.

The schools that you have selected are not SAP schools and you cant use Higher Chinese for your gal. You need to choose SAP schools in order to use Higher Chinese. With a gap of 7 marks, the chances to be honest is not very high.

SAP Schools are Nanyang Girls, Nan Hua High, Anglican High, St Nicholas, River Valley High, Maris Stella.

I checked and Nan Chiau is also an SAP school.Oh..So I don't think she can get into Anderson or CHIJ.But maybe I could ask them.:)But CHIJ is only a few points away from my daughter's mark..Hm..Here are the SAP schools:

Anglican High School 圣公会中学
Catholic High School 公教中学
CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls' School 圣尼各拉女校
Chung Cheng High School (Main) 中正中学(总校)
Dunman High School 德明政府中学
Hwa Chong Institution 华侨中学
Maris Stella High School 海星中学
Nan Chiau High School 南侨中学
Nan Hua High School 南华中学
Nanyang Girls' High School 南洋女子中学校
River Valley High School 立化中学
I am currently considering Chung Cheng High(MAIN) and Nan Chiau but Chung Cheng is quite a distance away from where i am living. And any suggestions for other schools that I could consider? And does any of you think that my daughter should go Chung Cheng?(considering the distance away from where we are living..)But my daughter like that school too as she had been there before and likes the environment and facilities.

Hi KSP fellow, I intend to choose CHIJ(Toa Payoh) for dd but her score is 236+2. I known this school is not SAP school. How to appeal to that school?

I think the convenience or inconvenience in commuting to the school is very important. Personally, I do not want my kid to spend so much time on the road travelling to and from the school. It can be a very tiring affair to do that daily and even on weekend if have CCA.
