My friend's son gets 4A & his score is only 216. Don't forget A is between 75 - 90 (the range is very wide) & A* is 91 & above. The value of A* is much higher than A. He needs to get at least 2A* & 2A to be in the top 10% of the PSLE cohort (250 & above)

But for 3A & 1A*, take the minimum 75 and 91, 0.75*(3*75+1*91) = 237, the mimimum T score would be 237, and if the 3A are slightly higher than 75, the T score should be more than 237, right?

Grades (A* / A / B / C, etc) are based on raw score. T-Score is the moderated score against the whole cohort so it cannot be compared as such.

It really depends on the quality of the A - one student may have 4 As which are around 75-80, while another may have 4 As which are around 85-90.

Chong Zheng Primary has explained the T-score. It is possible that 1A* 3A score is lower than 4A.

Yes, it really depends on the quality of A and A*. My nephew who has A* for maths and As for the rest has a T score of 254, while a friemd's child who is having A* for MT and As for the rest has T score of 250.

Read @Augmum post about the difference in marks in PSLE verses school exams in this thread http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum ... 3&start=40 There is truth in it because I know of a boy who never managed to get near an A in school got A* in PSLE for MT
