SINGAPORE: About 2,400 students were offered places at the participating schools under the Direct School Admission (DSA) exercises annually from 2010 to 2012.

These students comprised, on average, an even split between boys and girls.

Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat said this in a written reply to a parliamentary question by MP for Jurong GRC, Ang Wei Neng.

About eight per cent or 196 of the students eventually decided not to take up any offers by the participating schools.

They chose to participate in the Secondary One posting exercise instead.

Mr Heng also gave a list of 20 participating secondary schools that have accepted the most number of boys or girls through DSA from 2010 to 2012.

The schools that have accepted the most number of boys through DSA are (in alphabetical order) Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Dunman High School, Hwa Chong Institution, National Junior College, NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, Raffles Institution, School of Science and Technology Singapore, School of the Arts Singapore, St Joseph's Institution, and Victoria School.

The schools that have accepted the most number of girls through DSA are (in alphabetical order) Cedar Girls' Secondary School, CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School, Dunman High School, Methodist Girls' School (Secondary), Nanyang Girls' High School, Raffles Girls' School (Secondary), River Valley High School, School of Science and Technology Singapore, School of the Arts Singapore, and Singapore Chinese Girls' School.
