:idea: Riverside Secondary seems to be one of the best, if not the best in Woodlands, looking at the cut-off point for Sec one is the highest in this zone last year if I am not wrong.
One of my Sec 1 student this year from there and the Math curriculum seems very extensive. They even teach several Sec 2 topics in advance and tested in their final exam!

Thank you. Is Riverside building relatively new?

My girl's score would not be in the range of 240-260.

good morning Carol,

if you have noticed, that 240~260 thread was started prior to the Maths Paper. after that killer paper, don't think my DD can manage >240 as well :cry:

frankly, i have not check out Riverside SS. but from the "Choosing Sec School Book 2", it had made a vast improvement last year. it will be 1 of the 6 choices that i will make...but definately not the first or second.

schools within manageable distance relative to my house of course, listed below not in ranking order.

1) *BPGH
2) *YTSS
3) *ASS
4) *ZHSS
5) RSS
6) Presy. HS

* denotes autonomous

What is ASS & ZHSS?

You didn't consider Evergreen? Since you stay at woodlands, what do you observe about the students in Riverside & Evergreen? How is their buildings?

Mine I think is borderline case. She is better in languages than Maths & Sci. So I don't mind Chung Cheng Yishun.

Carol,

it's difficult not to laugh when you asked me what is ASS ? :lol: hey that's what my wife calls me :oops:

ASS = Anderson SS
ZHSS = Zhong Hua SS

like i have said, we cannot judge the school base on what we saw in some students in some day....the devil is not as black as it is painted & all that glitters is not gold sums it all.

no. i have not consider Evergreen & have not the slightest idea about their buildings. carol, below are my simple criterion in selecting.

a) child's result
b) school COA
c) distance
d) uniform nice or not (this from my DD POV) :stupid:

students behaviour, buildings, environment etc for me is secondary.

Haha, your point (d) was exactly the same as my DD POV too, last year. Anyway, when come to entering the choices online, this was not in her mind at all. :D

haha........seems that girls are more concern than guys regarding the sch uniform nice or not.
my gal's classmates' (those ave ones) are thinking of choosing TKGS,
but when they saw the sch uniform ( some TKGS girls came to "promote" their school), they said "Yucks! awful green in colour." which somehow affects their sch of choice. what to do, gals like nice things......
i think if there is a school with pink colour uniform, it will definitely a plus plus point for them. :wink:

I consider many many factors:

1) Cutoff point

2) Distance (I stay at CCK)

3) Sch programmes (higher chinese - my girl strongest subject, chinese dance gold - she joined this as CCA, overseas exchange programme)

I like Riverside programmes as it has all above, though it doesn't have open house or talk.

4) Students' behaviour (my girl is very well behaved, she was prefect from P3 to P6. But she is borderline student, hence there is great diff between express low end sch vs normal very good sch like BPGHS or new AS like YTSS).

This is very important criteria for me. They spend a great deal of time in sch and the type of friends they mix as they enter teenage yrs is the starting point of another stage of their life.

5) transport (mrt going towards woodlands is not so crowded as the train going towards jurong east).

Both Riverside & Everygreen in Woodlands.

I am also looking at Commonwealth.

6) banding
The band the sch is in for "O" level result.

7) Uniform (though this is secondary factor, but some sch has very ugly unforms like Zheng Hua in Bukit Panjang). Sometimes, it is not easy to see the uniform from sch website.

St. Margaret's is one of my choices. But my girl doesn't like the uniform.

8) Sch origin
Chung Cheng Yishun is also one of my choices since if in mixed sch, must have good values and usually this is stressed or of more importance in chinese origin sch than others. Can minimise BGR.

But uniform is white, easily dirty.

9) Buildings (though this is also secondary factor, but somehow it does affect a person's mood / heart to go since they are going every day. Just like we adults, we like to work in new or moderate buildings not old buildings).

Some sch sell their good points on new buildings like BPGHS & Clementi Town.

Some sch have holding place - I avoid it totally.
