Hi parents,

The boy and mother prefer Maris stella while the father wants Chung Cheng Yishun bcos of proximity.

Please advise.

Maris stella is affiliated with CJC while Chung Cheng Yishun is affiliated with NYJC. At the end of 4 years, it seems Chung cheng Yishun gets a better deal.

However, the boy likes the all-boys environment at Maris Stella and was impressed with the open house compared to Chung Cheng Yishun's.

The father is apprehensive of the possible higher cost education at maris stella and wants son to travel less.

Which would you choose?

I prefer CCHS as it is a co-ed school.
Any parents from the school can advise? Thanks.

My son is in Chung Cheng Yishun. Good focus on studies & also equal emphasis on CCAs. Also has very good character development program for all students 弟子规. Students very respectful. My son actually became more courteous & even bow to his trs when I attended Meet Parents Session.
Chung Cheng Yishun affiliated to NYJC -heard NYJC COP now only single digit.
Obviously better deal if choose Chung Cheng Yishun as compared to Maris Stella affiliated to CJC. Think NYJC better.
Anyway, Chung Cheng Yishun has good facilities & more important good character program & emphasized on studies.
In Yishun, Sembawang area think Chung Cheng Yishun seems to be the best option. Heard in 2012 COP same as Yishun Town which is autonomous - Chung Cheng Yishun not autonomous yet can achieve same COP as autonomous schools like Yishun Town & Xinmin, program must be good. Never regretted sending my son to Chung Cheng Yishun. Also, I stay near Yishun Town - heard from neighbours who have children in the sch that Yishun Town used to be very good when they had a male P last time who was posted out. Judging from the laments from my neighbours, Yishun Town not as good anymore under the new female P. If I didn't hear wrongly, the very experienced VP is leaving for another sch. So you may want to choose Chung Cheng Yishun. Of course, Maris Stella not too bad although some bad publicity some months back but guess it is just unfortunate.

If the son wants Maris Stella, I believe the son has a say in it. Ultimately, the son is the one going to school for the next four years. No point forcing a child to go to a school he does not have the passion for.

Thanks, parents, for the input.

Does it make a diff to you whether the school is a sap school and has only express stream versus having a mix of express, NA and NT?

The family believes that the son should subject to what the father approves so you can't tell the father to respect the son's preference.

These are two very different genres of schools, one is a more Chinese-oriented environment while the other is more angmoh pai and Christian school so do these differences matter to you? I don't think you need to necessarily worry about JC at this point in time, if you are good, you can go anywhere without affiliation.

For sec school, as long as not too difficult to get to school, distance shouldn't be a consideration.

How about the distance from CCHS to Khatib MRT? What if it rains heavily?

Takes 10 min to walk from Khatib MRT station to back-gate of school, sheltered all the way.

Agree with Imp75.

Two different school environments.
But two equally good schools in academic sense.

Think it's more a matter of preference.
Plus bearing in mind that Maris Stella is an all-boys sch and the other is mixed.
