my son scored 84 for english and 90 for chinese(both 98% in his school) and 86 for math(which was a disappointment because he won awards in math olympiad and 88 for science.this are his sa2 primary 5 results and he is a mainstreamer.he was also 7th in his school.Is this good enough for RI DSA

Most likely not but I think he should be able to get through the round 1 gat test. Round 2 will be very tough as the test standard is very high.

Your marks are not considered as high. Some of those from popular primary schools with marks in the high 90s throughout and platinum members of math Olympiad were still not good enough for RI dsa. The students were also in the high 90+% in the school ranking.

RI dsa domain test for each subject is notoriously challenging.

Just shared my ds experience dsa for through academy this year TJC - IP , his normal scored in P4 & P5 most subjects only at low A or B, English even C, in P6 are Eng at B, Maths A*, Sci A, chinese A, he does not has any award, during the day of dsa, we can only bring copies of p4-p6 mid yr result.

After submitted the application form, noticed that he has do some HAST test, go internet to search some GAT old questions print out, let ds try some.

Out of our surprise, we received letter the invitation of interview, all tough he ended at WL for this round dsa, but overall we are happy and thank God for His blessing.

Hope this experience can help those parents have kid like ds, finally he managed convert his WL in CO in his psle result slip, ds will start school in IP program next year.

I'd like to share my personal take on DSA.

Some of the children in my dd's class applied for DSA with other schools besides their dream school - just to "play it safe". Most did not get a CO or WL from their dream school but a CO from other schools instead. Many accepted the CO for fear of not doing well enough at the PSLE, only to find that they scored very well and way above the COP of their dream school.

MOE is very strict with enforcing the no-transfer policy after your child accepts the DSA. So there is no way of backing out once the offer is accepted. The moral of the story is, if your child is academically strong, apply DSA only for the dream school. If it is unsuccessful, there's always S1 posting. Don't try to apply for other schools as backup because the temptation to "settle" will be very great when a CO or WL is offered.

Nope, mainstream neighbourhood school. Quite a handful got COs and WLs but not from top tier IP schools - COPs in the low 250 range.

I think it also depends on which dream we apply for. My son wish to go SST but I hope he can go NUSH. SST only accept DSA kids whilst NUSH open smaller window for S1 posting. So to get into any of these 2 schools, DSA route becomes inevitable. I do agreed that we shouldn't simply CO from non-dream school, which will otherwise closing our opportunities for S1 posting after PSLE released.

SST also opens up for applications post PSLE. Check it out based on 2014 PSLE.

Any advice what to prepare for DSA to SST? DS loves Robotics and dreams to go SST. He has been participating in few compeitions under public category and won 1st. However P4-5 results not favourable and Robotics is not core CCA in his school. Seems like his chance of getting selected will be very slim and in fact looks like no hope at all. Have emailed to SST for more information but failed to get a clearer understanding from their standard official kind of answers that are also stated in their website...was told to visit them at open house in may next yr. If DS P4-5 results are below 70%, will he still be select for the next round if he has participate and wins some robotics compeitions? Other than SST, what other route or good school I can consider under Robotics?

If your ds like SST very much. Just go and try. No lose, no harm. Just waste a bit of time only. Don't think so much.

Just that you all have to go with an open heart. If cannot go in, don't be too sad.
