What is the COP of school he was posted to? What were the reasons he appealed to this AL18 school? Proximity?skyblue88 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 12:45 amI appealed 6 schools (COP 18-14) for my son and one of the schools have already accepted my son on the spot. My son prefers two other schools but the school that accepted him (AL 18) gave a deadline regarding our answer for next Wednesday. However his preferred schools (AL 17 and 14) has told us that they will inform us regarding the vacancies by the end of next week. My son got an AL score of 14
Any suggestions if we should accept the offer if no response by next Wednesday from preferred schools or take the risk and wait for response from other 5 schools. Thanks for any advice
Thank you for your reply. I also told my son the things you said. Your advice is helpful.manorway wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 4:27 amSince we do not have access to the information the schools have, no one can truly advise if you should accept the offer or take a chance and wait for the other two schools. Any advice will be more general.
You and your child have to make the decision. I suggest you discuss the following with your child:
1) What if you DECLINE this and those 2 two schools have no vacancies?
How will both of you feel? Your child will have to continue with the school he is posted to but he can seek transfer at the end of Year 1.
2) What if you ACCEPT this and your preferred school offers a place the next day?
I am assuming THIS is already an improvement from the school your child is posted to. It's NOT the best, but it's better than nothing, isn't it? Perhaps you can again seek transfer at the end of Year 1.
On the bright side, AL14 student going to a school with AL17 or AL18 COP means he may get lots more opportunities and can aim for Edusave awards. Of course, I am simplifying the matter here. But every cloud has a silver lining.
All the best!
Hi, we didn't get any of our 6 choices because we didn't expect this year they all increased their COP. We did meet one of our 6 choices and appealed it too. Also my first time psle. Lesson learned. I did like the accepted school but my son still got hope for the other two schools for appealing. That's why we are in a dilemma. We are in Pasir Ris area. Thanks for your reply.00skyblue00 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 10:22 amWhat is the COP of school he was posted to? What were the reasons he appealed to this AL18 school? Proximity?
Were the 6 appealed schools in his 6 choices originally? How did he end up had to appeal to 6 schools? Has he balloted out or the COP of his dream school shifted?
Which area are these schools in? Hard to seek advice from parents who may have students in those schools to share their experiences.
Do listen to your boy the reasons he prefer the other schools pending appeal accepted AL14, 17. Are they good reasons. Purely judge a school by COP is not advisable. Do the schools offer something else which will affect his interest or area of talent? Then go through these reasons with him based on the accepted school. Are there alternatives in the accepted schools?skyblue88 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 1:47 pmHi, we didn't get any of our 6 choices because we didn't expect this year they all increased their COP.
