Hello all, I will be taking PSLE this year so I have this question here : must you know how to play a particular instrument before being able to join that cca? Are they chances? Or no possibility at all? I do not know how to play any instruments except guitar only grade 1, I just started so .. So what do you think are chances of getting in? For example guzheng ensemble or Chinese ocherstra. In school like sngs dunman cedar and nan Chiau high ? And also how are the auditions for cca conducted? Seems a bit early but it's good to plan first right? if low possibility or no chance what cca is best for me to join? something able to get in easily and fun for girls? :?: thanks!

For musical groups, sometimes yes, sometimes no.

For smaller groups like guzheng, guitar or strings, probably yes you need to know the instrument and go for audition before they can decide if can accept you into the group. Such skills probably need longer to acquire and they need to recruit those who already know the instruments to ensure they can perform at concert and competiition.

For larger groups like Chinese Orchestra and band, no need to know the instrument but preferably have musical background.

For sports, most need audition before they accept you into the team.

Hope this helps.

Are you preparing for Sec 1? There will be CCA day(s) for you to understand more about each CCA.

I joined band when I was in secondary school without any prior knowledge of my instrument too! I believe it varies from school to school on whether they accept students without any prior knowledge of any instruments.
Some schools might have better results/achievements in SYF (for performing arts) so they might choose to only accept better players.
