Hi, Everyone

I'm new here, need advise urgently.

My daughter was admitted to MGS throught DSA, her T-score is 235+2. We are christian, I think MGS is a quite good choice. But she likes to go to mix school, asked me why she can't apply for Dunman Sec or Ngee Ann, or other mix schools that cop her score. What am I thinking is: why do you go for lower ranking school when you have better choice?

but since she insist, I think i will try some mix school using her T-score and her piano, badminton. The prefered school might be Chung Cheng Main, Tanjong Katong Sec. We are living at Pasir Ris.

Please give me some advise, How do you think about MGS? What will you do if you were me? Any mix school recommended in east eara? My daughter is vocal, lively, sporty.

Thousand thanks!

If i am you. I will pray and ask the Lord to close the doors which she should not go and open doors which she should go. Ask the Lord to show her which is good for her. Provided your daughter listens to the Lord's leading.

All else fails, then you tell her you are the parent and not her. She might get upset with you but it won't last however you spare yourself and herself headaches from BGR distractions for the next 4 years.

FYI, 6 out of 12 Band 1 schools are all-girls school.

There is TKGS in the east.

Hi, blesseddad

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I prayed everday to let her go to the school that lord has chosen for her, i think what you've pointed out is really a good idea, will try to appeal and leave the result to lord

But your daughter has a place in MGS already (DSA, right?). Do you mean to say she wants to try to appeal AGAINST the DSA? Is it wise?

By the way, she can't use her HCL bonus points for Dunman Sec, right? It's not a SAP school, or is it?

Yes, she has a place in MGS already, what we plan to do is that we go to the prefered mix school, see wether they accept her, if so, will try to appeal against the DSA. For me, i feel it is pity, but my husband has some concern about single gender school, he worry that single gender school is not very good for child's personality development, not balance.

I have no idea when can use the bonus points, thanks for reminding.

There is no right or wrong answer. I also agree with your hubby.

But at the end of the day, it is your daughter that is going to school, not you or your hubby.

No point forcing her to goto a school that she is not happy, that will affect her. As parents, we can advise her but it is her choice. We cannot say Anglican High is not good, can we ?

As a parent, you are to guide her. I would suggest you lay out the pros and cons for the schools of your choice and pray about it. Let me share my experience with my DS3 with you.
He wanted to go to RI a few years back but changed his mind and wanted NUSH. I showed support by letting him try the DSA route to get into NUSH. I didn't know that he could apply to RI via DSA also and missed the chance. He passed the test but wasn't selected. Passing the test affirm his abilities and he wanted to try again after his PSLE results. My main concern was the distance and traveling time and I tried to discourage him from doing so. My stand was since he couldn't get in through DSA and I have respected his choice, he has to respect my choice and choose RI if he scores above 265 (cos I don't want him to be at the bottom and struggles there) or VS. He was willing to forgo NUSH and choose RI if he meet RI COP. :stupid: His results was too low for RI but he could still try NUSH as he met their requirements. I gave him an alternative, stay at a friend's place near NUSH during term time if he could get in or choose VS. He even refused to go to VS open house and I had to drag him there. We weighed the whole situation after getting advice, opinions, facts etc about the schools and he finally agreed that VS is the best choice and decided against trying for NUSH.
For your girl, I think MGS is the best choice in terms of ranking among the schools listed in your post. My niece attended MGS cos she missed RGS COP and was rather disappointed at first but found it better than RGS (her primary school). Your DD may not know it but she may fall in love with the school on the very 1st day. I understand your DH concern but she has other opportunities to interact with boys. I believe your DD is attending youth service in church and has her own cell group. Furthermore, when she goes to JC, it will be co-ed and this means that she will only be there for 4 years. In fact, she can make use of these 4 years to build up lasting friendships which will be beneficial to her. How I wish I have more girlfriends to share my problems with. Having said that, since you are staying in Pasir Ris, opt for a school nearby. I always believe that the main concern will be the transport and traveling time. As heutistmeintag has suggested, how about Anglican and Hai Sing? These are better choices than Duman Sec and Ngee Ann.
