just wondering why ballet not a core cca in most sec sch? I feel that those girls who took up ballet and have taken exams in it should be able to use it as a dsa to sec school but unfortunately Singapore sec school doesn't take it as a cca. Correct me if I am wrong.

Quite sure SCGS takes in girls for ballet at dsa. That's their core cca. It's not what most students do, it is what the school wants to focus that counts. Very unfortunate hor? So those who take CCAs that are not 'wanted', then no school will 'want' them. check out school sports to find out which sports are supported by moe ccab. www.schoolsports.sg

International Dance is a core CCA in some schools and you can DSA into these schools through Dance Auditions. SCGS and MGS, for eg, take in students via Dance CCA. Ballet is a pre-requisite in International Dance and the dance audition is essentially a ballet audition. Pre-requisites are usually a minimum Grade 5 RAD Ballet.

Is there a arts school named SOTA???? Or something like that? My cousin's wife told me that they are gg to try to put my niece (P6 next year) to SOTA through DSA via the ballet route. She has taken her graded exams and have been learning ballet for years.

They participate in the SYF Central Judging. While the essential pre-requisite is ballet, the competition routine can be ballet, modern or contemporary, depending on the choreographer. The secondary school SYF competitions are of very high standard in some schools, like SCGS.

Yes, SOTA accepts students through Dance. Categories include Ballet, Chinese Dance, Indian Dance etc.

I'm not sure how to answer your question. Vanity in children isn't really dependent on whether you dance or not. You can be an excellent dancer and not be vain. And you can be in the sailing team and be very vain. It all depends on the person. Dancers, by and large, are encouraged to be slim because that's the preferred body type.

Dance CCA requires a lot of discipline, teamwork and dedication. Much like any other competitive team sport. So in that sense, it is a good CCA because it instils in the girls a sense of discipline and teamwork.

hi turquouise, my girl will be p2 in 2010. She has been going for ballet training since k2. She had taken her first ballet exam (primary) april this yr and next yr she will be going for the grade 1 exam in april. For her ballet school, the girls have to go for an extra weekday training from jan to mar in preparation for their april exam. So I was thinking if she was to spend so much time in the training and at the end she cannot use it as dsa to good girls school then it might be a waste. So in view of that, I was thinking of letting her take up netball when she is in p3 as netball is a core cca in most girls sec school.
